Furthermore, it postulates that the Tugen's use of herbal medicine is based on a confluence of two factors: their belief in the efficaciousness of their herbal medicine, and the high cost and inaccessibility of health care.
Although indigenous practitioners among the Tugen include herbalists, diviners and birth attendants (Nyamwaya 1986:161-163), in the treatment of esse (malaria) and nwak (visceral leishmaniasis) the most important practitioners are the herbalist's, known as Kipsaketinik.
Tugen treatment of malaria is based on a number of interlinked elements: beliefs related to causation, the action of effectiveness of 'modern' medicines, and the availability of plant treatments.

Plant fossils from the Tugen Hills in the Kenya rift valley have demonstrated that a variety of habitats were available to hominids and their immediate precursors, and they are not consistent with progressive opening of habitats during the time period just prior to the origin of Hominidae.
Climate estimates for the Tugen Hills fossil localities based on fossil leaves indicate that annual rainfall was approximately 1000-1200 mm/yr at Kabarsero (12.6 Ma), 500-700 mm/yr at Waril (~10 Ma), and 750-1000 mm/yr at Kapturo (6.8 Ma).
These data are the first quantitative estimates of paleoclimate for the time period during which the human family evolved and support previous paleoenvironmental estimates, based on qualitative interpretation of plant fossils, for varied environments between 12 and 6 million years ago.

 HKUST Institutional Repository: Item 1783.1/2192
This paper presents a tool called TUGEN which is used for automatic test suite derivation from formal protocol specification.
TUGEN is based on a formal model called EBE (External Behaviour Expression) which can be obtained from formal protocol specification in either Estelle or LOTOS.
Based on the EBE specification of a protocol, a test sequence derivation method is used to identify associations between inputs and outputs through the interaction paths and their I/O subpaths, then generic test cases specified in TTCN (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation) can be generated from these I/O subpaths.

Eroding Commons: The Politics of Ecology in Baringo, Kenya, 1890-1963, The African Studies Review - Find Articles
The Eroding Commons examines the herding activities of multiple age sets of Kalenjin-speaking Tugen and, to a lesser extent, Maa-speaking Charnus in the lowland areas of Kenya's Baringo District throughout British colonial rule.
Actions that the Tugen viewed as rational responses to drier environmental conditions-such as increasing goat holdings-were perceived by the colonizers as contributing needlessly to land degradation.
Anderson suggests this was the case because, although the Baringo lowlands had too many livestock for the available land, the lands were not overstocked in terms of Tugen subsistence requirements.
