	Tulsa Race Riot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Tulsa Race Riot, also known as the 1921 Race Riot, the Tulsa Race War, or the Greenwood Riot, was a large-scale civil disorder confined mainly to the racially segregated Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA in 1921.
		During the 16 hours of rioting, over 800 people were admitted to local hospitals with injuries, an estimated 10,000 were left homeless, 35 city blocks composed of 1,256 residences were destroyed by fire, and $1.8 million (nearly $17 million after adjustment for inflation) in property damage.
		The Tulsa Race Riot occurred in the racially and politically tense atmosphere of northeastern Oklahoma, some of which was a growing hotbed of anti-fl sentiment and Ku Klux Klan activity at that time.

		TULSA, Oklahoma (CNN) -- Beulah Smith and Kenny Booker, two elderly Oklahomans, lived through one of the worst race riots in U.S. history, a rarely mentioned 1921 Tulsa blood bath that officially took dozens of African-American lives, but more likely claimed hundreds.
		The Tulsa Race Riot Commission, formed two years ago to determine exactly what happened, will consider next week the controversial issue of what, if any, reparations should be paid to the known survivors of the riot, a group of less than 100 that includes Smith, now 92, and Booker, 86.
		The Tulsa commission is scheduled to release its final report on the riot in January.

		1996 saw the 75th anniversary of the event, and it was observed by memorial services. In 1997, the Tulsa Race Riot Commission was formed to look into the topic and submit a report on it to the Legislature. This Commission appears to be making some effort to separate myth from the matter at hand.
		The Riot is being seen as the important part of history it is, and not something to be consigned to dusty oblivion.
