PAUL LOCKYER: Federal Parliament was taken back up Tumbi Creek today as the Federal Opposition widened its allegations of pork-barrelling by the Government in a marginal New South Wales seat before the last election.
This scandal wreaks of fraud, this scandal wreaks of arrogance and it wreaks of lack of accountability.
That is when things got a bit hot for all the folk who are the poor devils who have to run this particular council under these pressures.
The Prime Minister himself announced the Tumbi Creek dredging allocation of $1.496 million in the very marginal seat of Dobell for the benefit of fourteen local recreational fishermen.
Jim Lloyd is on the record saying that 'poorly worded email' from his adviser Graeme Hallett did not constitute interference in the Tumbi Creek funding process.
Labor is committed to testing the validity of Minister Lloyd's statements and will hold the Government to account for the administration of millions of taxpayers' dollars allocated to the Regional Partnerships program.
During the W/shop, one of the deliberations made was to redistribute Bugaga land among key players in agricultural production in the region.
Tumbi Agricultural Research and Training Institute has been allocated with 100 ha.
According to the Acting Zonal Director for Research and Training Mr Benjamin Gama, the area will be developed under short-term, mid-term and long-term plans to be made soon involving all scientists and other well wishers.
Further Federal Funding to Dredge Tumbi Creek(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
This follows the earlier contribution announced by the Member for Dobell, Ken Ticehurst, which now brings the Australian Government’s total contribution to this project to $1.5 million.
This funding will enable the completion of the dredging of Tumbi Creek, and will cover landfill fees and road construction to ensure the dredged material is disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.
I congratulate Ken and all those who have fought for a better environmental outcome for their community.
And finally, in anticipation, I want to thank the contributors to this Forum, especially those who are more experienced in this field, for their friendly and helpful attitude to those like me who are trying to follow in their footsteps.
tumbi in the *** section hit set default hey presto.
Thanks for praise Tumbi and licklick most appreciated.
Tumbi Creek Announcement Tumbi Umbi, NSW(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
I've come here to announce that the Federal Government will contribute an additional sum of $748,000 to assist with the dredging of Tumbi Creek.
And this is a beautiful spot, the jewel in the crown, as the two fellows beside me say, and I won't argue with them or I might end up in the drink if I were to do that.
But I think this is a very important investment in the immediate environmental future of Tumbi Creek and this part of the world and it will make it even more enjoyable as an amenity, and I'm delighted to announce that on behalf of the Federal Government.

And, in the news today, is a story that's close to my heart - the Tumbi Creek rort
And ministerial misconduct, detention centres, Iraq War etc etc faded into the background as little Tumbi Creek dominated the headlines.
If word got out that the promised funding may not be forthcoming (the rain opened the creek naturally a few days after October 9), residents would have been furious, and voted accordingly....
Long before Timbaland sampled a tumbi to create Missy Elliot's Get Ur Freak On or Dr Dre sampled bhangra superstar Lata Mangeshkar for Truth Hurts' Addictive, the fabulously named Panjabi Hit Squad were pioneering the use of Asian flavours to spice up hip-hop.
In fact, they claim to have invented the idea.
Indian music is so multi-layered, from raw Panjabi tumbis to laidback Rajasthani flutes - there's so much for a producer to invest in.
North of Sydney, just off the Newcastle Freeway, the popular tourist resort of Tumbi Umbi is set on a creek of the same name on the southern shore of Tuggerah Lake.
The lake, of course, is a favourite haunt of anglers, while its broad, sheltered reaches are a magnet to boaties and sailors.
