The first Tungsten, the Tungsten T, introduced in November 2002 and known during development as the M550, was the test balloon for both Palm OS 5 and the entire Tungsten line.
The Tungsten T5, introduced in October 2004, is combination of the Tungsten E and Tungsten T3, the first to have a 416 MHz Intel PXA270 processor and sports a 320x480 TFT 16-Bit Color Screen instead of a 320x320 Color Screen with a hard input area.
The Tungsten W was succeeded by the Treo 600 after Palm purchased Handspring and became palmOne.

The T3 is indeed a little thinner than the TT, but it is also longer than the TT. In hand, it feels solid and comfortable and has the same heft as the TT, which I like.
The top of the T3 is basically the same as the TT, with the power button, stylus silo, IR port and SD card slot.
For me, the perfect Palm OS PDA would be a T3 that doesn't hide half of its face under a slider mechanism, has 128mb of RAM, WiFi and a better battery.

After reading all of the comments I had made a decision to stay with the T3 and even picked up a second T3 at a close-out price as my original was beginning to show signs of wear (loose slider, lost screws, etc.).
Jumping at this great accessory, I could not use the driver reliably on my T3, especially with the WiFi Card driver, as it would lock up the T3 into a state where even a hard reset would not be possible.
These tend to cause resets--the same as when the T3 (or any of the OS 5 units) were released.

As I now see reports that the Tungsten T2 is showing up in brick and mortar stores, rumors of an even better Tungsten T3 are popping up.
It is reported to have a 320x480 display with a slide like the other Tungsten T models, and photos also show a landscape mode.
If Palm came out with a Tungsten C that slid down to reveal a 320x480 display then I would purchase it in a second, because I love the Tungsten C keyboard and all the rest packed in that package--except for the small display.

I currently own a Tungsten T. I can see the potential of Bluetooth, but wi-fi would be better in my situation and don't wont the bulk of a Tungsten C, plus I want sterio.
The Tungsten C fits the bill for campus type usage, wharehousing, etc. - kind of like a laptop replacement (which is why it comes with a keyboard).
I really like the Blackberry style keyboard available in the Tungsten C. The single biggest surprise with my Tungsten T has been how much I utilize the SMS Messaging capability in conjunction with my T68i (however scratching out a text message during a meeting with Graffiti is anything but subtle).
