The Tungsten T5, introduced on october 2004, is combination of the Tungsten E and Tungsten T3, the first to have a 416 MHz Intel PXA270 processor and sports a 320x480 TFT 16-Bit Color Screen instead of a 320x320 Color Screen with a hard input area.
At the time of its release, the Tungsten T5 (alongside with the Treo 650) was plagued with memory inefficiency problems, third-party application issues, and device driver crashes, due to the new NVFS File System.

Compare that to the Tungsten E with dimensions of the E are 4.5x3.1x0.5 inches with a weight of 4.6 oz.
The T5 seems like an admirable PDA but as it stands, it seems to be a step down in features with a step up in the memory management.

The top of the T5 is shiny fl plastic, with the IR window on the right along with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the power button.
The T5 also has an SMS client (same as the one on the T3 as far as I could tell), a world travel alarm clock, and a Bluetooth dialer.

Audio however is the poor relation and this is what still holds the tungsten T5 back from being a true multimedia device, MP3 replay works but the built in speaker is very poor indeed and so you have to resort to using the headphone socket but even that produces a less than impressive sonic experience.
Overall the Tungsten T5 is a good package and a real evolution from those early device and still a marked improvement from the T3, but for £279 it up against some pretty stiff competition who have a more rounded multimedia package with WiFi as standard.
The Tungsten T5 can still be a winner for PalmOne but it will be a case of preaching to the converted.

Those of you who are familiar with the Tungsten E will immediately notice that the T5 looks like the stretched version of the E. The design and appearance are indeed very similar and palmOne went with that design because it has been so well received.
The Tungsten T5 has a 416MHz Bulverde Intel XScale PXA270 processor which is currently the fastest processor on a Palm OS device and is more than fast enough for even demanding power users.
While the T5 does add more memory (and non-volatile memory at that), it doesn't have as bright a display as the T3, and it lacks the T3's voice recorder, metal casing and vibrating alerts.

The main shortfalls I've seen reported have concerned the lack of voice recording, of vibrating alarm, and of built-in 802.11b wireless networking (though the latter can be added by a card that plugs into the unit's SD memory slot, which is a less-than-ideal solution).

As the T5 is set to replace the T3 which does have a metal shell, I was very surprised that the T5 was left lacking one.
Those of you that have PDAs that are several years old and are looking to upgrade to the T5, I would say that if you can't wait a few more months for the OS 6 devices, the T5 is a solid performer and should serve you well.
I think; like many others that the T5 is just a stepping stone for palm and isn't the flagship some people think it is. Okay the thing with no wifi i can understand but to do nothing about the OS and to tell us that it doubles as a drive.

PalmOne stretches the possibilities with this Tungsten T5 handheld computer, the first handheld from PalmOne to utilize flash memory.
I'm now on my third Tungsten T5, having sent one, then another, in for warranty "repair." (Really, they just replaced it.) The second one froze up and died after only one month.
You can copy files back and forth to it, it will let you work with both the SD Card storage and also the builtin storage on the T5 as separate drives, I found that to be a handy feature for moving files in and out of the thing without doing a hotsynch operation.
