Turaco (AMc-55) was laid down on 17 January 1941 at Rockland, Maine, by the Snow Shipyards; launched on 28 July 1941; sponsored by Mrs.
As World War II drew to its close in June 1945, Turaco served with Naval Air Operational Training Commands at Mayport and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Following a brief assignment in July with the Bureau of Ordnance, 7th Naval District, the minesweeper proceeded to Miami for alterations.
Turaco was placed out of service on 30 November 1945 and was struck from the Navy list on 19 December of the same year.

This image was taken at Makasutu where a few Violet & a single Green Turaco were found feeding on ripe fruit in a tall Fig tree.
Unfortunately the Green Turaco flew off before I could get any pictures however this Violet Turaco hung around long enough for a few images.
Sadly the bird was in shade, when seen in sunlight the body colour is an intense deep metallic violet.
