Turambar summoned all his will and courage and climbed the cliff alone, and came beneath the dragon.
Turambar therefore crossed the water once more, desiring to recover his sword and to look upon his foe; and he found him stretched at his length, and rolled upon one side, and hilts of Gurthang stood in his belly.
And thereupon Glaurung opened his eyes and looked upon Turambar with such malice that it smote him as a blow; and by that stroke and the anguish of the venom he fell into a dark swoon, and lay as one dead, and his sword was beneath him.

 Túrin Turambar
Tolkien, Túrin Turambar was a Man of Middle-earth, who became a tragic hero (or anti-hero) of the First Age in the tale called Narn i Chîn Húrin ("The Tale of the Children of Húrin").
The mound they were buried in survived the War of Wrath and as Tol Morwen was the westernmost isle off the coast of Lindon in the Second and Third Age.
This prophecy however, disappeared in the evolutionary process of the Middle-earth myth, later to be replaced by Andreth's prophecy which proclaims the slaying of Ancalagon the Black, another fire drake by the hands of Túrin.

The heir of King Rómendacil I, who succeeded to the throne of Gondor after the violent death of his father at the hands of the Easterlings.
We are told that he not only avenged the loss of Rómendacil, but carried his conquests into the lands of the Easterlings themselves, winning much new territory for his Kingdom.
Turambar ruled Gondor for one hundred and twenty-six years, and was succeeded by his son, who became Atanatar I.

The Turambar sound reminds me of a mixture of Warhorse and Soulpreacher's unrelenting heaviness and diseased groove, Cathedral's massive guitar sound and Earthride's menacing biker rumble.
Turambar also know how to craft songs that are incredibly expansive and winding, mostly stretching over the 10 minute mark which gives them time to maximize the effect of every doomed note that they manage to wring out of their instruments.
Turambar definitely bring out the spirit of some of my favorite bands but with huge twists and turns and gripping, innovative song-writing.

08-03-2004, 07:22 AM Tolkien´s tale of Turin Turambar was based on the tale of Kullervo in the Finnish epic Kalevala.
The Tale of Turin Turambar is probably the only Tolkien story I could go back to and enjoy, but not with the same relish that I can re-read Howard, Leiber, Peake, and your own books.
Anyone who reads your two essays in Sojan from 1963 can see that you were already pretty much fully aware of the allegorical, symbolic and mythic resonances of what you were writing in a way that Tolkien never was even at the end of his career.
