Turbonegro isn't about making deep observations on life or society; they're all about rocking out, money and darkness.
Turbonegro is the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness of the musical world: campy and cheesy but with a cult following that embraces them.
Scandinavian Leather (and Turbonegro for that matter) is definitely not for those who wish to be intellectually stimulated through their music, but for those who just want to rock out and have a good time, they're the dudes for the job.

Turbonegro - Free Music Downloads, Videos, Lyrics, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Trashy, hedonistic, decadent fun was the focus of Turbonegro, a band that was formed in Oslo, Norway, in the '90s but had more in common with '70s and '80s pop-metal, hard rock, and glam metal than with the alternative rock that other Scandinavian bands were playing in the '90s.
In 1997, Turbonegro recorded Apocalypse Dudes, which was released in the U.S. by Man's Ruin in early 1999.
The breakup, however, was short-lived, and Turbonegro were back for tour dates in 2002, followed by the release of Scandinavian Leather in 2003.

 Splendid: Features: Turbonegro
Turbonegro have returned, and this time nobody is going to be spared their wrath.
Splendid recently cornered bassist Happy Tom and lead singer Hank Von Helvete in their hotel room, where we discussed midgets, the group's tawdry public image, and the triumphant return of a band most people assumed had fallen prey to the rigors of their rock 'n' roll lifestyle...
That was also the song that catapulted Turbonegro from a basic action-rock band to a huge, infernal, weird rock 'n' roll nightmare.

Turbonegro are more exciting and crazy-perfect than any rock band playing today.
Formed in Oslo, Norway in the early **90s, the group is legendary as much for its hardcore-by-way-of-arena-rock sound as it is for its denim fetish and on-stage anal pyrotechnics.
Turbonegro's slick riffs and flamboyant classic guitar Wailing are so potent they had to invent their own genre: death-punk.

Mixing raucous lyrics with a style of punk rock all their own, Turbonegro soon gained huge fame almost everywhere.
Even hitting up the mainstream for a bit, Turbonegro was poised to become bigger by the second...until they broke up.
While Turbonegro's "deathpunk" style was quite evident on their earlier albums, Apocalypse Dudes added something new and wild to the mix: rock n' roll and glam metal.

Let’s not forget that the band broke up for a few years and not for one but many reasons like that singer Hank Von Helvete (which means Hell in Norwegian) was pretty strung out on heavy drugs and needed time out from the lifestyle.
Turbonegro is a rock n’ roll band and as such we expect these crazed Norwegians to run amok and keep on rocking for our own selfish sake dammit!
More importantly Turbonegro is still together and very much an integral part of the rock scene.

 Ink 19 :: Turbonegro
Turbonegro is an embodiment of sex, sailors, food fights and F-words rolled up into a bong-sized hash ball that's a never-ending toke into the mindless madness, a rush of adrenaline that brings out the dirty dog in us all.
So after a well-aimed pelvic thrust through most of the '90s that culminated in their finest hour (Apocalypse), and a five-year period of self-destruction, they rise again, bigger and better than before and pointing straight at the ear of an ever-growing legion of fans who wouldn't let them die.
Turbonegro is a self-deprecating slice of Seventies showmanship and self-indulgence, swearing off the socially-bound seriousness that's plagued the suffering music-first rock star hold outs who place playing at a premium.

Turbonegro: Ass Cobra / Apocalypse Dudes - PopMatters Music Review
The 1998 album is a big leap compared to the previous release, boasting more of a huge rock sound (it also features the six-headed snake logo of the Symbionese Liberation Army on the cover, strangely enough).
Turbonegro were already a phenomenal band, but this time around, new drummer Chris Summers supplies massive, thunderous beats, and lead guitarist Euroboy steals the show with his decidedly un-punk guitar solos, shredding a la Steve Perry circa 1974.
These albums might be five, seven years old, but this is a perfect time to reintroduce Turbonegro to the masses, and bring back a sense of fun to a genre that seems to have been taking itself far too seriously lately.

And it was precisely the plot Turbonegro lost in the late 90s when, after a decade on the touring treadmill promoting their self-styled "death punk" on such albums as Ass Cobra (1996) and Apocalypse Dudes (1998), the sextet's stellar run came to an inglorious end in a mess of drugs and emotional disintegration.
Meanwhile, Turbonegro's unique, high-camp mix of Nordic punk and Alice Cooper glam was honoured with a tribute album, 2000's Alpha Motherf*#kers, featuring Turbo covers by Queens of the Stoneage, Toby Dammit (The Residents), Satiricon and Blunchen - "Germany's Kylie Minogue".
Hitting the road to promote this year's new album Party Animals, Turbonegro are hoping to be a little more careful at airport customs this time around after German police arrested their tour manager in 2002 after discovering an 18-inch knife concealed in the band's luggage.

Turbonegro (Turboneger in Norway) is a Norwegian band who combine heavy metal, rock and punk music into a non- politically-correct version of punk.
Their lyrics often attack political correctness; for example, the cover of the single "Bad Mongo" depicts Adolf Hitler as mentally retarded, and in the song "Hobbit Motherfuckers", they complain that there is "not enough suffering" and "not enough natural selection".
Being a fun project with common predecessors (Sex Pistols wearing swastikas, etc), Turbonegro have been praised by some as playing the most up-to-date form of punk, and refusing to be categorized being nowhere as clearly expressed as in this anarchic blend of humour, shock and sexuality.

Turbonegro: Party Animals - PopMatters Music Review
When a band who has built a reputation based on extremely raunchy lyrics and over the top stage personae suddenly steps away from the shock value and the theatrics, and concentrates on more accessible songs, it's always tempting to criticize.
Take Norway's Turbonegro, for instance, who have been tweaking their sound for the better part of a decade now.
The songs are no different than anything Turbonegro has done in the past, but they're energetic enough to win us over.

I stagger forlornly to the bathroom, where whispers of the cheap, nasty amphetamine given us by a nameless Turbojugend (Hells Angel-esque fans of Turbonegro) who followed us back to the hotel from the club are clouding the porcelain.
As the recently re-released Turbonegro: The Movie attests, by their final tour in 1998--when their cultish infamy threatened to break into the big time--they were losing their minds and souls in a surfeit of heroin and madness, an end their "legend" seemed to predict through its very outrageousness.
This incarnation of Turbonegro recorded two masterfully offensive albums--the nosebleed-velocity Ass Cobra, featuring such classics as "The Midnight NAMBLA" and "I Got Erection," and the classic-rawk Apocalypse Dudes, featuring "Good Head" and "Rendezvous with Anus"--slam-dance party albums that rocked like Black Flag jamming with Alice Cooper.

Splendid Magazine reviews Turbonegro: Apocalypse Dudes
When discussing Turbonegro, it's a tough call deciding whether Ass Cobra or Apocalypse Dudes was the band's defining moment.
While Ass had a punishing punk sound that was more in line with the band's earlier releases, Apocalypse's one-two blow of offensive deathpunk and '70s metal riffs could be considered the turning point in the band's career.
But Turbonegro didn't forget what got them to this point in their musical career -- offensive punk anthems.
