Negative Impact: The board president of Sewickley Township Public Library voiced fears that the 43—57% defeat of the library’s levy may have been a result of the wording of an official explanation of the referendum that was posted at all six of the township’s polling places.
The disputed sentence reads: "In addition, however, the Sewickley Township Supervisors will have the authority to increase the tax rate for the library tax without having to obtain voter approval of another ballot question." McMillan said the sentence was underlined at several of the polling places visited by library board members.
Township officials have expressed reservations about paying their share of the Memorial Library of Nazareth & Vicinity budget, which includes a 12 percent increase.
