In Polynesian mythology, the Turehu are a race of blonde Menehune.
Turehu live in Rangiawhiao, in the tribal area of ngati kahu.
It is told in old Maori tradition that after the turehu were tricked by Kahukura some traveled to the taranaki district in the west of new zealand while the others remained in Rangiawhiao but moved inland.

A peculiarly interesting myth, and evidently a very old one, is that concerning one Mataora, who is said to have visited and sojourned a while in Rarohenga, the underworld of spirits.
The Turehu folk encountered by Mataora are said to have been residents of Rarohenga, and they ate their food raw, though otherwise described as a folk of considerable culture.
The fair-skinned Turehu folk may represent a race actually encountered by such a voyager, or simply a myth that has become incorporated with the legendary account of a genuine experience.

This changed later when Maori warrior numbers were large enough to overwhelm the former people, but for a time, probably spanning many generations, Maori culture was greatly influenced by the Patu-pai-arehe/ Turehu, including: all aspects of culture, language, dance, religion, tools, dress, cultivation techniques, basic astronomy and the use of symbols.
The art of moko was taught to Maori by the Turehu, as was the haka and other dances.

Late era Pictish art is some of the most intricate and beautiful to be found in the British Isles.
We might concur on a point of belief that some these earliest inhabitants of Ireland probably found their way to Oceania and New Zealand and were related to the Turehu of this region.
Certainly, the early history of Ireland refers to the very small stature people (Caucasoid pygmies) who became known as the fairies and dwelt in subterranean abodes in the deep forests.
