This delineation is only reflective of the post-1974 division of the island, which involved an expulsion of Greek Cypriots from the north and the analoguous move of Turkish Cypriots from the south.
Historically, the Greek language was largely spoken by all Greek Cypriots and by many Turkish Cypriots too, given the fact that the Greek Cypriots formed the majority of the population.

Ankara hosts the KKTC president - Turkish Daily News Aug 01, 2005
Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat will arrive in Istanbul this morning, and after attending media functions and meetings with prominent Turkish businessmen will be moving on to Ankara tonight for his first-ever official visit since assuming leadership of the Turkish Cypriot state from veteran Rauf Denktaş.
Disrespect to the Turkish Cypriot president amounts to disrespect, to say the least, to the Turkish Cypriot people and the undermining of the Turkish Cypriot state.
If Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side cannot regain the initiative in this new period with well-calculated and constructive moves, the unilateral declaration Turkey issued after signing the EU protocol will not suffice to stop the erosion of the KKTC.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Summary
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a semipresidential democracy, with a president as head of state and a council of ministers composed of a prime minister and ten cabinet members.
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti) or Turkish Cypriot State (Turkish: Kıbrıs Türk Devleti) is a break-away de facto state in the northern third of the island of Cyprus.
Turkish Cypriots were opposed to the proposal since it relegated their status to a minority, instead of co-founders of the state, whilst also removing their community’s constitutional safeguards.

He stated that Turkey's insistence on inviting the occupation regime in northern Cyprus to the meeting under the name "Turkish Cypriot state" was not acceptable to the European Union.

The "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" is an unrecognized and illegal "state".
The Turkish invasion and occupation forcibly divided the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus, a sovereign and independent state, with a mixed population of nearly three quarters of a million consisting of 82% Greek Cypriots (including Maronites, Armenians and Latins) and 18% Turkish Cypriots, and forcibly segregated its people.
Turkish Cypriots are now outnumbered by the approximately 85.000 Turkish settlers and the additional 35.000 Turkish occupation troops.

 Turkish-Cypriot Theatres
Especially during the Turkish War of Liberation (1920-22), many plays have been performed by the Turkish-Cypriot theatre groups to raise money for the displaced people and orphaned children as a result of the Greek invasion of western Anatolia, Turkey.
The play became very popular for a simple reason that the characters spoke with what was called a very Cypriot [rural] accent of the early years and that the people could find a part of them in the characters.
The Cypriot-Turkish theatres also produces a small number of celebrity actresses, among them Mine Senhuy, who stars in the popular television series Bizimkiler, on a Turkish televison, and Ayhatun Atesin, who is famous for her successful performance in one-person play of Willy Russel's One Woman: Shirley Valentine in 1993.

Following the defeat of the Venetians in 1571, Lala Mustafa Pasha, the Turkish Commander of the land forces in Cyprus, chose, before departing for Istanbul, 12,000 foot soldiers to remain on the island for the formation of the defensive garrison of Famagusta, Nicosia and Kyrenia.

On the contrary, the Plan explicitly enshrines the principle of bi-zonality, asserts the political equality of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, and declares the two constituent states of the United Cyprus Republic are of equal status.
Those safeguards include: the equal status of the two constituent states; the equal number of senators hailing from each constituent state; rotation of the chair of the Presidential Council among all its six members, two of whom must be Turkish Cypriots.
The United States does not want to see a return to the dark days before 1974; we are convinced that the Annan Plan provides safeguards for all people on the island to be able to trust in their hopes and enjoy the benefits of joining Europe.
