The biggest Turkish pop star of the 20th century was probably Sezen Aksu, known for overseeing the Turkish contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest and was known both for her light pop music and her controversial stances on feminism, Serbia and the Cumartesi Anneleri.
Kurdish music is characterized by simple melodies, with a range of only three or four notes, and strophic songs, in which an identical line of poetry and music occur at the end of each stanza.
European classical composers in the 18th century were fascinated by Turkish music, particularly the strong role given to the brass and percussion instruments in Janissary bands.

 Classical Persian Music
Before examining the music of the area, I think it is important to first of all be aware of some of the previous political events which have befallen this, one of the worlds' more 'historically colourful' (for want of a better turn of phrase) nations.
From the final Pahlavi dynasty (1925 - 1979) music was restored to a position of esteem as part of a general period of westernisation of Iran (as it came to be known).
Unfortunately since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, music in Iran is the subject of severe suppression, & the fate of this culture for the time being is largely in the hands of a few expatriate musicians in Europe & North America, & people like myself of western descent who have their own interests in it.

When "Turkish" music was scored for orchestra, it normally used extra percussion instruments not otherwise found in orchestras of the Classical period: typically, the bass drum, the triangle, and cymbals.
Turkish music also appears in works of Rameau, Michael Haydn, Rossini, Ludwig Spohr, and in two operas of Gluck, "Iphigenie auf Tauris" (1764) und "Die Pilger von Mekka" (1779).
Turkish music commonly is found in finales, which (as Charles Rosen point out) are typically the most relaxed and loosely organized movements of Classical works.

Classical music, for the most part, was the enduring music with a level of musicality and intricacy that could strike a chord (so to speak) with serious music lovers.
The best-known Arabic classical music is probably a song called Lamma Bada Yata Thanna, a fascinating piece of music done in the samai rhythm, which is written in 10/8.

Hindustani music is the music of North India, involving both Hindu and Muslim musicians.
Carnatic music is the music of South India, different in many of its terms and formal demands, although similar in overall outline.
