Turner Field, also known as "The Ted", was named after the then owner, Ted Turner.
The stadium was built across the street from the former home of the Braves, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which was demolished in the summer of 1997.

Last Modified: 4/22/2004 8:02:51 PM Atlanta's fire chief said Thursday that Turner Field, which went without a fire inspection for seven years, is now up to code and perfectly safe.
Chief Dennis Rubin told 11Alive News that he was surprised when he found out earlier this year that the fire department had not conducted an annual fire safety inspection since the stadium opened in 1997.
Rubin became the fire chief in December and had the first code inspection conducted at Turner Field in February.
