It is served by the Baltimore and Ohio and the Pennsylvania railways, and by the Ohio canal, and is connected with Cleveland by an inter-urban electric line.
Canal Dover was laid out as a town in 1807, and was incorporated as a village in 1842, but its charter was soon allowed to lapse and was not revived until 1867.
Canal Dover became a city under the Ohio municipal code of 1903.

The Ohio Historical Society death certificate index shows “Harry F. Schlafly.” It now appears that the middle name Lawrence was derived from the nickname “Larry,” not the opposite as one might expect.
Schlafly married Leda Johanna Mullen in 1898 in Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was laid to rest in a cemetery in Strasburg, in his native Tuscarawas County.

 Earl Olmstead
An Avid historian, Earl Olmstead, a resident of Tuscarawas County, Ohio has lived most of his life in the heart of the Delaware eighteenth-century Indian country.
He is currently involved as President (Emeritus) of the Tuscarawas County Historical Society located at the Kent Tuscarawas Library.
He is also currently a member of the Ohio State Bicentennial Commission, and lectures frequently throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania on eighteenth-century historical events.

Rhoda Boyd b 1748 in Cumberland County, PA. She was captured by the Indians and lived with them, escaped from the Bouquet troops to return back to her Indian family and later agreed to return home to Carlisle.
In Cumberland County, PA the early settlers were annoyed by the Indians and consequently settled in groups as much as possible for self-protection.
Franklin County, PA John DIXSON (DICKSON), was born in Scotland in 1690, of the Clan Argyle.
