	Tuscarora Indian Tribe History
		Although the Tuscarora were regarded as mild, kind, peaceable, ingenious, and industrious, they were speedily brutalized by the vices of the colonists with whom they came in contact; their women were debauched by the whites, and both men and women were kidnapped to be sold into slavery.
		Blunt's Tuscarora were to destroy the hostiles who had taken part in the massacre and to deliver hostages for their own good behavior-this arrangement was to continue only until the new year.
		The date of the adoption of the Tuscarora into the council board of the League of the Iroquois, through the Oneida, their political sponsors, is indefinite, judging from the differing dates, ranging from 1712 to 1715, given by various well informed writers.

	Tuscarora
		Tuscarora was recommissioned at Boston on 3 October 1864 and reassigned to the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
		Tuscarora returned to South America in 1868 and was placed at the disposal of the Chilean government to assist victims of the great earthquake which had occurred on 18 November 1867.
		Tuscarora was transferred to the North Pacific Station on 11 October 1874 and left for Honolulu on 1 November with orders to take soundings of the ocean bottom every 30 nautical miles.

	TUSCARORA QUARTZITE
		The Tuscarora is a very hard, white, even grained quartzite (sand sized grains of quartz cemented by silica) while the Elbrook is a repetitive assemblage of limestone and dolomite layers.
		The Tuscarora belongs to a sequence of clastic sediments, notably sandstone and sandy siltstone (shale) that shapes the ridges and valleys from McCoys to Cumberland.

		Tuscarora is a large, deep, open lake of over 800 acres, two miles across and 120' deep.
		Because there are no established portages from the northern or the southern shores, access is limited to a 68 rod portage from Owl in the west and two rather arduous routes from the east.

		After the war Over 800 Tuscarora women and children were sold off as slaves in Charleston, S.C. because at the time NC would not allow slaves to be sold but would allow them to be rounded up.
		BOTTOM LINE: names on the Tuscarora Reservation in NY can also be seen in church cemetaries and present day schools with children sitting at desks in Craven County and surrounding counties and I would be happy to show you where these sites are as well as where we are.
		We have Tuscarora folks living in different parts of NC but we are family and this is what matters.

		The Tuscarora is recognized throughout the Valley and Ridge province of PA, MD, VA, and WV and correlates with the White Medina sandstone under the Appalachian Plateau to the north.
		The sandstone of the Tuscarora consists of light-gray to light-brown fine- to medium-grained, medium- to thick-bedded quartzite, which weathers white.
