Bicolor cat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most tuxedo cats are also fl mask cats, a common name for felines who, due to their facial coloration, look as if they are wearing a fl mask over their eyes, and often over their entire head.
To be considered a true tuxedo cat, the feline's coloring should consist of a solid fl coat, with white fur limited to the paws, belly, chest, throat, and often the chin, although many tuxedo cats appear to sport goatees, due to the fl coloration of their mandible -- that is, the lower jaw and chin.
The derivation of the term tuxedo cat is self-explanatory, as the animal appears to be wearing the type of fl tie formal wear commonly known in the United States and Canada as a tuxedo.

NJWedding.com - Articles & Tips - History Of The Tuxedo
The tuxedo was a truly American invention, in that it embodied a rebellion against the cultural standards of Europe.
For that town's Autumn Ball of 1886, Pierre Lorillard IV, the heir to the family fortune, decided to wear something less formal than the fl tie and tails that had become the standard of men's formalwear in the early 1800s in Britain.
Tuxedo accessories have developed over time: the bow tie did not become popular until the 1920s; the cummerbund was later borrowed from the British, who had borrowed it from India.
