Between 1712 and 1721, new Austrian authorities built a new fortress (authored by the architect Maximilian de Gosseau), known as Tvrdja.
It is a unique urban and military complex that lies in the heart of the town.
Three parts of the town, the Lower Town, Tvrdja, and the Upper Town were united in 1786, and Osijek became the administrative center of Slavonia region.

Architectural heretage and other historycal monuments from 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th century show that didn`t fall behind in cultural and social development of other towns in Europe.
Most important event for the development of Osijek occured in 1786 when the thre parts of the town merged; Upper Town, Lower Town and Tvrdja untill then existed as three seperate comunities.Baroque Tvrdja was built in the early 18th century on the faundations of Osijek as they were during the Otoman rule.
Main and the bigest square in Tvrdja is the Holly Trinity Square, in the middle of the square there is the Plague Monument that was built after the great plague epidemic.

The entrance was few hundred meter upriver from present the Water Tower of Tvrdja (= Citadel) in Osijek.
In 1745 Osijek became the government's seat of restored Virovitica District, which remained so until this District was abolished in 1922(!).

As a part of the festival we will provide some additional happenings for our visitors in Tvrdja, such as performances, art exhibitions and displays, open-air cinema, and other similar activities.
This event would help promote Osijek as the city of young people, education and culture, and would also aid towards the prosperity of our region.

I have often thought that spray paint art is a metaphor for grace, since no matter what you do, it all works together for good in the end - often in unintended ways - like God's grace.
We are still waiting to get back into the building in Tvrdja so that we can start to renovate it and make it a truly powerful outreach center.
We keep hearing that the time should be "any day now" but that day is always just beyond reach.

The urban centres of Dubrovnik and Split appear in the List of World Cultural Heritage, as well as Trogir and the Euphrasia basilica in Porec, while the Episcopal complex in Zadar and the Amphitheatre in Pula are candidates for the List.
Application will also be made for the town walls of Ston, the urban centre of Tvrdja in Osijek, the Baroque town of Varazdin, and Sibenik Cathedral.
During the bombardments of 1991 - 1992 the historic centre of Dubrovnik was entered on the List of Endangered World Cultural Heritage.

UFO is a manifestation that was held for the first time from 17th to 19th June 2004 in Osijek, in the old part of the town, called Tvrdja, by river Drava.
UFO is a music event which aims to gather not so well known bands, individual artists and DJs from around Croatia, providing them with an opportunity to appear and perform on the big stage, with an excellent sound system (30KW), in front of a large audience, and with many journalists and agents present.
For all these reasons we have decided to organise this festival at an appropriate level.

Tvrdja es una fortaleza urbana del siglo XVIII en el centro de Osijek, capital de la Coracia del Este, y sus 106 edificios – originalmente casas residenciales y cuarteles del ejército – constituyen un ejemplo único de la arquitectura barroca de fortificaciones.

 Museum of Slavonia, Osijek
As its collections expanded, the Museum changed its location on several occasions.
Since 1946, it has been seated at "Tvrdja", at the former Municipal Magistrate building (built in 1702).
Franjo Buntak, who was appointed Museum Curator in 1936, re-displayed the entire holdings in 1940 and wrote the first and still the only Municipal Museum Guidebook.

We talked about summer activities which German scouts tend to organize (building of children playground in Mitnica) and expected help from UKIJ side.
In manifestaion of Saint George (23.04.), the patron of the scouts all over the world, 45 UKIJ scouts went to a whole day visit to Osijek, where they visited city ZOO, did the sightseeing of historical city (Tvrdja), accompanied by the scouts from "Slavonski hrast" Osijek scout group.

At noon arrived at OZNA's prison which was located at old Franciscans' cloister in Osijek's Citadel (= Tvrdja) near Water Portal (= Vodena Vrata).
