Twelfth grade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A high school senior is a student in the final year of secondary education in the United States and some other countries, generally 12 years after kindergarten or 17–18 years of age, but sometimes as old as 21.
Members of this grade level are commonly struck by senioritis.
It is simply referred to as the twelfth grade (or grade 12 in English Canada), in Ireland, it is known as 6th year, in Singapore it is known as Junior College 1 or 2 and in Australia it is known as Year 12.

In the U.S., it is grade 12, and therefore the assessments were taken by twelfth graders.
The results of the TIMSS assessment show that overall, U.S. twelfth graders were significantly below the average of the 21 countries participating in the assessment of mathematics general knowledge [2, p.26] Unlike the results at grades 4 and 8, the results of the mathematics general knowledge assessment have not been reported by mathematical topic.
In the case of the mathematics tests, the content at eighth grade was presumably more closely tied to the curriculum than at twelfth grade, where students in the U.S. take mathematics courses ranging from Calculus to Business Arithmetic to nothing at all.

Appendix A - Nebraska Reading/Writing Standards - Reading (Twelfth Grade)
The standards for grade 12 presume that basic skills in reading have been taught before grade 4 and that students are independent readers.
For those students who are still having difficulty in developing grade level reading skills, teachers should continue to work with students in those areas appropriate to the skills and needs of the individual student.
Grades 8 through 12 should continue the emphasis on developing reading skills (skill building) while maintaining the emphasis on expanding the variety and depth of reading experiences.

The Negative Case: Drop Twelfth Grade from the NAEP Program Tests are not intrinsically interesting to most students and although some students may value the reward that successful test performance might bring, they usually do not value the process of test taking itself.
Taken together, these considerations point toward the conclusion that NAEP assessments of twelfth graders faces daunting motivational obstacles that are difficult to overcome, so that efforts to do so are not likely to be successful (i.e., to yield the desired rates of participation and quality of engagement).
For example, selected twelfth graders might be invited to a national conference on how to improve high schools, how NAEP assessments might be better linked to high school curricula, how to improve test-taking strategies, etc. Participation in the NAEP would be linked to the opportunity to be invited to this conference.

All retained eleventh grade, twelfth grade, retained twelfth grade, returning students, and adult high school students who have not yet passed both sections of the HSPA must participate in the October and March administrations.
Since the APA is an assessment that collects instructional materials rather than one that is administered on a limited number of days, the portfolio evidence collection period runs from October 23, 2006 through February 23, 2007; student portfolios are scheduled for pick-up on March 5, 2007.

One cooperative technique, Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD), was used to determine if twelfth grade advanced placement students who were given instruction by the STAD method over a seven week period would score higher on a posttest than those students who were taught the same material by traditional methods.
The quizzes are graded by the teacher and individual scores are then calculated into team scores by the teacher.
Newman and Thompson (1987) reported that STAD was the most successful cooperative learning technique at increasing student academic achievement, but the bulk of the research on STAD had been conducted at the elementary level and in subject areas other than social studies.
