Twentieth (20th) Century Fox Film Corporation (known from 1935 to 1985 as Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation) is one of the major American film studios.
Begun in mid-1933, releasing four to six pictures a year through United Artists, Twentieth Century was a success, in part due to financial backing from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (which ended up merging with UA in 1981).
"Twentieth Century Fox" is also the punning title of a song by The Doors on their self-titled debut album (1967), referring to a foxy lady.

National also agreed to give Twentieth Century a "Notice of Irrevocable Authority" directing the latter to pay to Chemical Bank and Trust Company for the accounts of Swarttz and of plaintiffs their percentages of the profits and that the bank was to pay these sums directly to Swarttz and plaintiffs.
Under its terms, National is to furnish Twentieth Century with 7 to 10 pictures during the ensuing 7 years, each picture to cost a minimum of $400,000 and to be free from all incumbrances and from the claims of owners of any material used in the pictures.
Acceptance of the picture by Twentieth Century shall not be construed to release or relieve National of any of its representations, warranties, indemnities or covenants in the agreement, one of which was to "discharge (1) all claims".

FILM RADAR: Darryl Francis Zanuck: His Rise to the Top as a Studio Mogul
As long as Twentieth Century was dependent upon United Artists for distribution, Samuel Goldwyn for a studio lot, and MGM for money and talent, Darryl F. Zanuck would not reap the benefits from all of his hard work, and he would not be the master of his own destiny.
Twentieth Century had a net worth of only $4 million, made $1.7 million in annual profits, and owned no studio lot, distribution apparatus or theaters.
His motto was “Stars don’t make pictures, pictures make stars,” and he spared no expense at $1 million per film to pay for all the action and spectacle.

The Formation of Twentieth Century-Fox (20th Century Fox)
Twentieth Century Pictures was organized in April 1933 as a showcase for the talented 30-year-old producer who resigned from Warners after a salary dispute earlier that year.
Twentieth Century signed a distribution deal with United Artists in July 1933, and quickly became the most prolific supplier of films for the distributor.
Even though Twentieth Century, one of the most high-profile independent companies, had abandoned the independent movement, Darryl Zanuck's initial step of leaving Warners to form his own company had a trigger effect on other studio executives and creative personnel who desired to go independent.

Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century-Fox, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and other film companies are watching television development with a careful eye and laying their own plans in a very hush-hush way.
The film companies are interested in television because they have much at stake in the production of motion pictures, in their ownership of theaters, and in their relations with independent theater owners.
Some movie companies are asking as much as $400 for a single showing of a feature picture that is eight or ten years old, even if it is only going to be viewed by a few television set owners.

One of the most intriguing, and which I only mention in passing here, is the degree to which art and intellectual life in general in the United States was emerging in the decade of the 1910s from a state of provincialism and beginning to address itself to "world-historical" problems.
