Topic: Twinstick

Twinstick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twinsticks are permitted in two very different market types: either the market must be too small to support two separate commercial broadcasters competing for advertising dollars, or the market must be large enough that a diversity of broadcast voices already exists.
Twinsticks were first allowed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 1967, as a way to help expand CTV service to smaller markets.
In the original twinstick model, the second station was a rebroadcaster of a CTV station in a larger market, to which the small market's existing CBC affiliate would be granted the advertising sales rights.

A twinstick, in Canadian broadcasting, is an informal term for two television stations, broadcasting in the same market, which are owned by the same company.
Under Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission rules, twinsticks are permitted in two very different market types: either the market must be too small to support two separate commercial broadcasters competing for advertising dollars, or the market must be large enough that a diversity of broadcast voices already exists.
As the Global Television Network owns all of its affiliate stations directly, twinsticks of this type always involve CTV and CBC stations, and are becoming increasingly rare as the CBC buys out its remaining privately-owned affiliates.

 MCTV
MCTV was created in 1980 when Cambrian Broadcasting, which owned the CTV affiliates in Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins, merged with Mid-Canada Television, which owned the CBC affiliates in the same cities and CHRO in Pembroke.
This twinstick structure was permitted by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission because these were small markets, unable to support two commercial stations competing for advertising dollars.
MCTV was acquired by Baton Broadcasting in 1990.

CH (television system) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In several markets, namely the B.C. Lower Mainland, Alberta, and Montreal, WIC had already effectively secured twinsticks in some form, the second stations being, respectively, CHEK, CKRD and CJNT.
However, as an ownership group and not a network, it was not able to co-ordinate the activities of the first-string stations, much less the second-string outlets.
Independently-owned CFJC in Kamloops, British Columbia, which airs nearly all of CHBC's non-local programming and has a joint sales agreement with the Kelowna station, is also expected to disaffiliate on that date and will likely adopt the CH schedule as well, but not necessarily the CH name.

Examples of the small community type include Thunder Bay Television's CHFD and CKPR in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and Newcap Broadcasting's CITL and CKSA in Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan.
CTV directly owned several CBC twinstick stations it had inherited from Baton Broadcasting in 1997 (CKNC, CHNB, CJIC and CFCL in Northern Ontario, which were part of the MCTV system, and CKBI and CKOS in Saskatchewan), but these were sold to the CBC in 2002.
Examples of the large market type include CITY and CKVR in the Greater Toronto Area (both owned by CHUM Limited), CIII and CHCH in the Greater Toronto Area (both owned by Global) and CHAN and CHEK in the Vancouver-Victoria area (both owned by Global).

 Gear: Sega Saturn Twin Sticks
At this level, losses are incurred and the Twinstick becomes a liability rather than an asset.
Sega was too ambitious early in the Saturn's life cycle and over-estimated demand for the Saturn Twinsticks.
Now, in the DC era, they're under-estimating demand for the Dreamcast Twinstick and Maracas controllers and the overall market suffers the lessons taught by history.

 NTSC-uk review > PlayStation 2 > Virtual On Marz
The player took control of a Virtuaroid (or VR) through the use of the TwinSticks (two joysticks with a trigger and a dash button each).
Debuting on non-SEGA hardware is one very major advent for the series, but the biggest and most tangible advances are based around Marz’s lack of TwinStick support and it being host to an expansive set of missions.
Ideally, most players should ignore the emulated TwinStick setup (using the PS2's dual analogue sticks) and use the plain pad setup instead (the latter suiting Marz far better).

Tokyopia: First Impressions: SEGA's Virtual On Marz (PS2)
To the uninitiated, the controls were somewhat complex but they allowed the player, once mastered, to unlock swathes of combat intricacy.
Regardless of this, much of the more advanced close combat and complex manoeuvring is made unnecessarily tricky (as well as very uncomfortable) on the pad.
Admittedly the absence of the TwinSticks does make Marz much more of an inclusive game, something that Hitmaker was aiming for, but the depth and intricacy of the seriesf gameplay has been somewhat sacrificed with the loss of the TwinSticks.
