Twisted is a goa trance album released by Hallucinogen in 1995 on Dragonfly Records.
It is one of the most successful releases in the genre, selling over 85,000 copies.
The first track on the album, "LSD" found the most popularity, and for many people remains the defining sound of goa trance.

Mi-Loony-Um opens with the same intro as the floormashing 4-4 original, and then buzzes right down to a slower, heavy dub tempo signalling that you’re about to be taken deeper than you’ve ever been before.
Twisting and turning, the way the main LSD melody surfaces is pure sonic poetry, and certainly gets those brain chemicals flowing.

Twisted is a re-release of his first album from 1995.
The web site discography for Hallucinogen lists a fairly extensive discography, but while there are parts of this album I liked I'm skeptical as to whether there would be much of anything different on the other releases.

Most notable was Psychic TV's 1989 album Towards Thee Infinite Beat, which featuring drawn out and monotonous patterns with short looping voice samples and is considered by some to be the first trance record.
The intent was to make sound that was hypnotic to its listeners, this would also lead to a strain of trance known as Euphoria being developed which caused an uplifting sensation among its listeners who became somewhat euphoric during listening.
Many of the trance albums produced by industrial artists were generally experiments, not an attempt to start a new genre with an associated culture -- they remained firmly rooted culturally in industrial and avant-garde music.

He played a lot of Hallucinogen dub remixes, and they were all pretty good, if you like dub.
Don't expect to be wearing out your shoes on the Hallucinogen in Dub album, though you might wear out your headphones and make a big dent in your sofa from leaning left and right.

Dark and driving yet also uplifting, huge in both sound and scope yet at its core rather simple, cathy yet not at all catchy and mechanical yet somehow very human, Twisted is an epic and engrossing album that is essential not just for trance fans but for anyone who enjoys psychidelic music.
The way the music climaxes and flows means its just as enjoyable for a sober night in as it is at a rave (the true test of good electronic dance music), something that cannot be said for most drug-induced (non-)experiments with a keyboard and a drum machine.

Album starts with "Demention" (it's a state of insanity I think) and it's pretty...insane.
Is the best album of the 97's goa or psy album's, Simon really knew what he was doing and he did it well, the effect's in Deranger are out space, 9.5 of a 10.
The range of emotions that this album produces is incredible - from silly laughter to jaw-clenching fury bordering on insanity.

If you are new to hallucinogen and shpongle then I would start off with tales of the inexpressible by shpongle and the lone deranger by hallucinogen.
it is essentially a collection of trip-hop and dub remixes of hallucinogen's goa/psy-trance songs by ott, an underground british producer who acted as editor on shpongle's two albums.
Besides great song composition, this album is an audio engineering masterpiece (I'm a recording engineer myself), which another one of Ott's great talents, so if you get a chance do yourself a favor and listen to it with headphones.

Also check out the True album (the tracks are called rythmism 1-7), and if you can find it anywhere, check out Makrometasomacosmos.
That is the most crazy album I've ever heard, it's based on star-cage rythm (where the rythm repeats every few thousand years or so), and there is 89 tracks on the cd, each track is either 34 or 55 seconds long...

Hallucinogen aka Simon Posford is a pioneer of electronic music and founder of the psy-trance scene.
Another tune that influenced Simon was "The Age of Love" by Jam & Spoon and this can be heard in some of his earlier releases.
More recently he has produced tracks with Benji Vaughan as their band Younger Brother, Simon Posford has completed new sounds with Dub 'Ott' & Hallucinogen and is currently collaborating with the Twisted Allstars and touring the world spreading his music to all sorts.

The album is AMAZING, the idea of 20 tracks is great because each track can be listened for itself separatly as well as a part of the whole trip: multi dimensional concept of the music!!!!
The Lone Deranger was my first techno album and I haven't found anything even close to being near this greatness.
I just started gettin into Hallucinogen and i think your fukin awsome, i love LSD thats some good music to feel when your tripping, i'd love to see you guys at a rave that would be brilliant, i think alot of your stuff is better than Astral Projection's, keep up the good tunes!!!

Hallucinogen's Deranger ep was released in 1996 and is catalog number TWST 1.
Monday, November 11, 2002 Twisteds first release is from Hallucinogen which I just had to get, and I'm not disappointed at all.
But it ceartainly does not pack the power of the "Deranger" track, it's literally just a jumble of sound twisting, Simon tends to try to twist and tweak every sound he has in the track.

The last thing I love about this album is that it is like a journey that builds on itself and is extremely varied; the first track starts the album at a slow pace, but from there on, the music speeds up and doesn't let up.
A great album with no throw-away tracks or no two songs that are alike, yet somehow it still flows.
Simon Posford, the man behind Hallucinogen and Shpongle, has an excellend reputation for being a really good goa trance DJ, and a lot of it is because of this CD.

From the ecstatic morning joy of "LSD" to the crazy naughtiness of "Shamanix" to the mysterious question marks of "Alpha Centauri" to the symphonic grand finale of "Solstice", this is a trip from start to finish.
LSD really kicks this cd off to a good start and the whole album is in fact great.
I wouldn't say this is a perfect album but it's a very good one and has 2 songs that everyone should have.

Well, AFAIK the Live album was cancelled since Simon decided that he didn't get the tracks up to his perfectionist standards in any recording from a live act.
Last interview he said he's giong to work on a few more tracks and that the third hallucinogen album isn't what he feels like working on.
It says on the Twisted website that he is working on an album with Merv from Eat Static due to be released in July, so I'm looking forward to hearing what that will sound like...
