TwixT - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TwixT is a two-player abstract strategy board game invented by Alex Randolph.
Twixt is played on board with a 24×24 grid of holes, with the four corners missing.
It is no longer produced in the United States of America, although Schmidt Spiele produced copies of the game in Germany, and Kosmos published a version of the game in 1998.

 TWIXT Strategy Game Scanario
Further examination of the TWIXT scenario, however, will show that it is not only relevant in both cases, but it also provides a mechanism to quickly assess CSCW technology with a minimal amount of evaluation overhead.
In the case of TWIXT, if two players on the same team do not agree on where to focus their collective efforts, then it is quite likely that the opposing team will succeed in defeating them.
In TWIXT, there are occasions where a strategy is effective only if the opponent does not comprehend the true implications of a given series of moves; if the other team understands the logic behind the placement of the pieces, then the strategy can be defeated.

Note that in the game of Twixt, there is the added complication of the pegs and bridges belonging to the other player, which limits the possible locations for bridges to be placed.
Let us call the two-color uncrossed path problem the question of whether $s$ and $t$ are connected, using only pegs and bridges of the same color as $s$ and $t$, in the presence of pegs and bridges of a different color.
Let the pegs of the Twixt board be vertices with integer coordinates, and let the bridges between the pegs be edges between the vertices in the graph.

 SGF - Twixt (GM[21])
Although this syntax places no restriction on the order in which these move types are made, a suggested convention for game files, when more than one move type is made by a player as part of the same turn, is to place a new peg as the final step.
This is also not specific to Twixt, but it should be mentioned that this property is useful for puzzles which are set up on some portion of the board.
This is also not specific to Twixt, but the following convention is suggested: If the value of N is "bookmark X" where X is some number, then this node could be a labeled bookmark, which could be quickly accessed by some application.

Twixt is a three dimensional version of an old pen and paper game.
The object of the game is to build an uninterrupted "bridge" from one end of the board to the other.
While not wildly original Twixt is still an interesting member of the 3M library.

Twixt was invented by Alex Randolph, a prolific inventor of games (see Sid Sackson's "Gamut of Games"), who introduced it to a group of artist freinds who used to frequent a Vienese cafe.
This is where Twixt bears another similarity to Go, where a stone is not necessarily placed in order to absolutely define the limits of a player's territory, but instead might have a variety of purposes, such as maintining the initiative (sente), or forcing a local response and simultaneoulsy improving the position elsewhere on the board.
I suspect a good Twixt engine would have to have access to a very large database of local positions before it would be able to "merge the analysis" of several local positions into an overall board strategy.

You might also like Hex, which is similar to Twixt in terms of the game object, but very different in terms of play.

Since an empty Twixt board is symmetrical, the table shows only one quadrant, but includes data reflected from all four.
The axes show coordinates from all quadrants—for example, c3 is equivalent to v3, c22, and v22.
These stats are influenced by the skills and preferred opening moves of the Twixt players that have played on Little Golem.

If we leave things the way they are, we probably need to give up on the else clause of twixt(), and simply assert that everything should raise exceptions on failure.
If we ditch the else clause and have to use exceptions, we need some more convenient way of handling those exceptions than wrapping the twixt() in a try.
One possibility would be to get rid of try {}, which is an endless pain in the neck to use in any case.

I really intend the twixt() to be *good* syntax for > things like opening and closing files, creating and removing > temp files, locking and unlocking mutexes, etc. I've removed the 'else' clause from 'twixt' and made the 'enter' expression not conditional anymore.
The results inside the interpreter are quite salutory, cleaning up quite the mess generated by the handling the conditional.
Note that you do get some typechecking with this; the requirement is that the type of the array element in the actual matches the type of each formal it will be assigned to.

Perhaps the elements of the twixt could be statements instead of expressions?
That would make our try_acquire block look more like: twixt (({ if (!try_acquire()) raise no_acquire(); }); release()) { } That almost looks sensible now.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Francis of Assisi
Christmas appears indeed to have been the favourite feast of Francis, and he wished to persuade the emperor to make a special law that men should then provide well for the birds and the beasts, as well as for the poor, so that all might have occasion to rejoice in the Lord.
Early in August, 1224, Francis retired with three companions to "that rugged rock 'twixt Tiber and Arno", as Dante called La Verna, there to keep a forty days fast in preparation for Michaelmas.
During this retreat the sufferings of Christ became more than ever the burden of his meditations; into few souls, perhaps, had the full meaning of the Passion so deeply entered.
