Enneagram - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
It seems that the Enneagram figure's first definitely established use (at least in its most common form of the triangle and hexagon) is found in the writings of the Greek-Armenian spiritual teacher G.I. Gurdjieff (died 1949) and his Russian-born student P.
Ichazo first taught his understanding of the Enneagram (or the 'Enneagon' as it is usually called in his teachings) to students in Arica, Chile in the 1960s and later in the United States through his Arica Institute.
Twos, at their best, are compassionate, thoughtful and astonishingly generous; they can also be prone to passive-aggressive behavior, clinginess and manipulation.

Inventing Enneagrams -- The Cycle of Drama   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Regardless of which application of the enneagram is being considered, whether it be personality or a process or whatever, the same energy configuration seems to be always associated with the same enneagram position.
Two- force analysis answers both of these questions: the identification of two system-determinative tri-state forces is the key to knowing that the enneagram is applicable at all, and the fixed-position energy- configurations enable the system to be precisely factored to reveal the underlying enneagram dynamics.
Physics and the Enneagram, using these tools, presented for the first time, I believe, a psychologically- grounded theory as to why there are exactly nine fixations and why each has the specific characteristics that have been empirically observed.

Enneagram Type 2 - The Helper
Twos are warm, emotional people who care a great deal about their personal relationships, devote an enormous amount of energy to them, and who expect to be appreciated for their efforts.
Twos are thoroughly convinced of their selflessness, and it is true that they are frequently genuinely helpful and concerned about others.
Twos can mistype themselves if they are not in an obvious helper role in their professional lives; they might not recognize the extent of their involvement in assisting others.

The nine Enneagram types are grouped into three groups of three, corresponding to the three Centers of Intelligence, through which information is processed (head, heart, and body) and the three core emotions (fear, grief, and anger).
These two types are known as wings of the type, and may or may not color the expression of a given individual's personality type or core point.
Twos can be very empathic, friendly, and giving, and yet may become resentful if their generosity is not appreciated or reciprocated.

Two (Enneagram) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to Don Richard Riso, the Helper is the second personality type of the Enneagram, and is also known as a Two.
Putting others first makes average Twos feel angry and resentful, and these feelings erupt in various ways that hurt their relationships.
They are often seductive, and this is the result of a combination between the Two's desire for love and the Three's desire for acceptance.

For the Sarmounis the enneagram was important as a means of divination to foretell future events as well as a tool to represent life processes, such as personal transformation.
Through these two figures inside the enneagram circle, each based on the decimals of three into one and seven into one, Gurdjieff was able to manifest the great numerological laws of the three and the seven.
Gurdjieff taught that the enneagram has the power to reveal the "timeless" aspect of any cosmic process, since the enneagram is a symbol of the cosmos (i.e., the universe itself is ordered according to the same numerical arrangement as the enneagram).

Strictly speaking, the enneagram is a circle with nine points on it (_ennea_ means "nine" in Greek, and _gram_ means "line drawing").
Enneagram teachers who recommend that students return to this essence rarely understand what Gurdjieff meant, but his words make it clear that he did not have a Christian sense of God.
The enneagram practitioners, and anyone tempted to take their courses, must become aware that their doctrine must conform to Scripture and (at least in the view of the Catholic, but also to a lesser extent for many Protestants) church teaching.

In seeking two forces which might account for personality flavors, a not-unreasonable "simplified scenario" would be to consider the "innate child" and "the primary parent" as being the two "forces" out of which personality develops.
Whenever the parent and child interact with one another, the flavor of that interaction is strongly influenced by the approaches that the two participants bring to the situation.
As a contribution to a more general enneagram theory, it clarifies the part explained by the Law of Three, leaving the remainder to be explained by other principles.

 The DuVersity Library: The Enneagram
Enneagrams largely derives from articles written for the Enneagram Monthly, attempting to explain the Gurdjieffian view of the enneagram as an insight into transformative process rather than as a spectrum of 'fixations' or psychological types.
One of the great lessons of the enneagram is that any kind of development must reach its ceiling and be transcended in another dimension.
FIXATIONS: As a frame of nine points, the enneagram was used by Oscar Ichazo to depict his scheme of human types of fixation, in such a way that the dynamical organising process was ignored.

How the Enneagram Personality System Works
Strictly speaking, everyone has two wings—in the restricted sense that both of the types adjacent to your basic type are operative in your personality since each person possesses the potentials of all nine types.
In the course of teaching the Enneagram in workshops and Trainings, many people in the latter half of their lives have reported the development of their so-called "second wing." And in individuals who have been pursuing psychological and/or spiritual work, we have seen evidence that this is true.
Once you have taken the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator to discover your dominant type, and perhaps also the Instinctual Variants Questionnaire to further refine your understanding of the Enneagram types, you may be curious about the personality types of others.

With this understanding the Enneagram is given much variety and it can be seen that people are not pigeon-holed by finding their personality type.

The basic type is further influenced by the two numbers it is connected to by the lines in the circle, called connecting points.
There are three subtypes that apply to each basic type: self-preservation, meaning the person is primarily concerned with life skills and physical well-being; intimate, meaning the person is primarily concerned with one-to-one relating; and social, meaning the person is primarily concerned with their place in a group or community setting.

Strictly speaking, everyone has two wings — in the restricted sense that both of the types adjacent to your basic type are operative in your personality since each person possesses the potentials of all nine types.
We do not know, however, whether these students were merely seeing all of the positive potentials of the nine types unfolding in them as they matured — their second wing being one of the other seven types — or whether this was a specific development of the second wing type.
