Ending up in two different worlds - one the housepet of the French ambassador (Jean-Claude Dreyfus) and his son (Freddie Highmore), the other trained as a circus performer, the two are finally reunited at the behest of the local Indochinese Prince, who demands a Gladiator-style fight to the death between the two long-lost brothers.

Two Brothers: (Stephen Warbeck) In the style of a documentary drama/adventure, director and producer Jean-Jacques Annaud extends his approach from his similar film, The Bear, into an even more engaging, dialogue-filled tale for Two Brothers.
Two tiger brothers are born in the 1920's Far East, separated by humans for several years and forced into unnatural positions as pets and circus performers before, inevitably, the two reunite when the humans force them to fight.
Two highlight cues are "Recognition," when the family theme for the tigers is finally performed with the loving strings and heartbreaking harmony, and "To Freedom," when the child-like spirit of the tigers explodes with glee though Warbeck's use of a hip whistler for a catchy thematic rendition.

 Two Brothers (2004): Reviews
An epic adventure of discovery, survival and wonder, this is a fable about twin tiger brothers born in the wild that become separated as cubs, raised in captivity under completely different circumstances and then reunited as adults when they are pitted against each other in a fighting arena.
The tiger footage in Two Brothers would make for a solid nature documentary, but because the animals are shoehorned into a narrative, they've been anthropomorphized to death.
"Two Brothers" lacks a consistent tone, which dilutes the impact of the film's anti-hunting message, because the tiger who delivers it, seems more like a method actor than a wild animal, at times.

SPLICEDwire | "Two Brothers" movie review (2004) "Two Brothers" review, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Guy Pearce, Jean-Claude ...
"Two Brothers" is a rare animal indeed: A critter movie not just for kids, with well-drawn, well-acted human roles that are more than just sidekicks for the stars of the show -- two extraordinarily expressive Asian tigers named Kumal and Sangha.
Co-writer and director Jean-Jacques Annaud ("Enemy at the Gates," "Seven Years in Tibet") gives "Two Brothers" an empathetic and nurturing sense of both animal instinct and human ego as his story unfolds in unexpected ways and with uncommon depth.
But this artistic faux pas isn't enough to diminish the standing of "Two Brothers" as a fine example of one of cinema's most endangered species -- an animal movie, with a great script, that is engaging and entertaining for just about any age.
