Two Minutes Hate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the Two Minutes Hate is a daily period in which Party members of the society of Oceania must watch a film depicting The Party's enemies (notably Emmanuel Goldstein and his followers) and express their hatred for them and the principles of democracy.
Orwell's obvious reference in the sequence is to the utter demonization of an enemy during a time of war and the exultation of the cult of personality of the leaders of totalitarian states.
Hate week is an extrapolation of this period into an annual weeklong festival.

Nineteen Eighty-Four - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some have suggested that Orwell simply switched the last two digits of the year in which he wrote the book (1948), but others have suggested that it may also have been an allusion to the centenary of the Fabian Society, a socialist organization founded in 1884.
The "Two Minutes' Hate", for instance, being based on Stalinism's habitual demonization of their enemies and rivals, and Big Brother himself bears a resemblance to Stalin, they both have the same description and the cult to Big Brother's personality is taken from the cult at Stalin's personality.
It is perfectly possible that the conflict between Big Brother and Emmanuel Goldstein is in fact a conflict either between two fictitious or dead leaders, whose true purpose is to personify both the Party and its opponents.

The two minutes hate is just another tool of the party, used on a frequent basis to whip up party members into an orgiastic frenzy.
This is the same reasoning as attempts to 'abolish' the orgasm, mentioned later in the book. The image of big brother that appears on the telescreen at the end of the two minutes hate is there to asure party members that they are safe as long as they are faithful to the party.
