Not sure why it is two weeks but that seems to be the way it is. For executive positions the transition time may be months but I assume we aren't at that level.
However, after two weeks his partner handed me a severance and release agreement, thereby holding me hostage for the previous two weeks making me think he was going to be a good guy.
If someone gives less than 2 weeks' notice, they are clearly no longer invested in the company, and the few times it happened the employee did have a negative attitude toward his/ her job, so it was better to have them leave immediately.

 TWO WEEKS NOTICE
Two Weeks Notice, directed by Marc Lawrence, is a romantic comedy about a woman named Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) who is a very neurotic lawyer.
Two Weeks Notice is mostly and mainly an attempt at a feel-good romantic comedy that could easily make for the next Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan collaboration in which they both hate one another at the beginning and end up loving one another at the end.
Overall, Two Weeks Notice is a wholly bland and rather disappointing film that could have been something greater had its two usually likable stars had the right amount of chemistry or well-written and likable personalities to play.

Not very good and not a total loss, "Two Weeks Notice" simply just is - an inconsistently paced and unoriginal movie that really only manages to be as watchable as it is thanks to Grant's way of taking several lines so-so dialogue and making them at least worthy of a mild laugh.

 Two Weeks Notice
Two Weeks Notice is a lazy effort from Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant.
It brings nothing new to the already tired genre of the romantic comedy, instead relying on the considerable talents of its stars to coast along to a movie that only is barely tolerable.
But the fact remains that Grant is playing the pompous jerk, and Bullock the spunky cute girl, the two roles that both excel in.

Two Weeks Notice marks the first collaboration between two of the biggest names in romantic comedy.
It is a good thing that Bullock and Grant are both very likeable on screen, because even though the characters they often portray are very similar, you nevertheless enjoy their performances due to the personalities they bring to these roles.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in Two Weeks Notice.

The newest in the endless succession of romantic comedies is “Two Weeks Notice,” a film starring the loveable Hugh Grant and the gruff, hard-nosed Sandra Bullock.
There is an emotional connection between the viewer and the viewed, and we celebrate as if we were their friends, feeling happy for two people who finally found the spark that we always saw between them.
For once, a movie does not proclaim the truth about two love-struck somebodies, but permits them time and space to convince us of that all on their own.

DVDown Under REVIEW - Two Weeks Notice
Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant New York lawyer who has chosen to use her skills for the greater good and not only works for legal aide but is well known for her stance against big companies that are tearing down heritage style buildings all over New York.
Whilst Lucy’s work is somewhat outstanding she finds it hard to come to grips with Wade’s immaturity and his constant use of her for means other than what her job as chief council calls for.
From here we see the all too familiar comedic romance story prevail, and Lucy begins to battle with her feelings for George when she is threatened by a younger and more beautiful replacement.

She gives notice, but gets flmailed into staying long enough to find a suitable replacement.
"Two Weeks Notice" is directed by first-timer Marc Lawrence, who wrote Bullock's "Miss Congeniality" and "Forces of Nature," and his shakiness at the helm is evident in the film's unwillingness to take even a meager stab at breaking out of the tidy pink box of romantic comedy convention.

Two Weeks Notice, the directorial debut of screenwriter Marc Lawrence, stars Sandra Bullock (who also produced) as Lucy Kelsen, a borderline-neurotic activist-cum-lawyer who, through her efforts to save a popular community centre being demolished to make way for a new apartment block, locks horns with super-wealthy businessman and entrepreneur George Wade (Hugh Grant).
Basically, Two Weeks Notice is a lightweight score which has no real musical innovation or truly wondrous merit, but which is nevertheless enormous fun to listen to, and is a perfect fit in the context of the movie.

BBC - Films - review - Two Weeks Notice
Given recent events, it's no wonder that Hollywood's filmmakers have turned New York into the romantic-comedy capital of the world, with Jennifer Lopez's "Maid in Manhattan" and Sandra Bullock's "Two Weeks Notice" both set in the city of yellow cabs, hotdogs, and Central Park.
Shot in Manhattan (with a helicopter ride over the city and a quick trip to Coney Island thrown in for good measure), "Two Weeks Notice" is a formulaic vehicle for Bullock that's so packaged it should have been delivered by the postal service.
She trudges her way through a script that openly steals from the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie "You've Got Mail" and seems to have overlooked the two essential ingredients for any self-respecting romantic comedy - romance and comedy.

Although Bullock does have her routine primped and polished, Two Weeks Notice benefits from more: a snappy, likable script by writer/director Marc Lawrence (writer of Forces of Nature and Miss Congeniality) and a witty, near-flawless performance by Hugh Grant.
It would seem that Lawrence wrote for his two stars specifically, and was even savvy enough to let them riff now and again.
