Twofish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twofish is related to the earlier block cipher Blowfish.
Twofish's distinctive features are the use of pre-computed key-dependent S-boxes, and a relatively complex key schedule.
Twofish was designed by Bruce Schneier, John Kelsey, Doug Whiting, David Wagner, Chris Hall, and Niels Ferguson; the "extended Twofish team" who met to perform further cryptanalysis of Twofish and other AES contest entrants included Stefan Lucks, Tadayoshi Kohno, and Mike Stay.

 Twofish encryption algorithm
Twofish is a symmetric key[?] block cipher with a block size[?] of 128 bits and key sizes up to 256 bits.
On most software platforms Twofish is slightly slower than AES for 128-bit keys, but somewhat faster for 256-bit keys.

 The IDEA Encryption Algorithm
The procedure is quite complicated using subkeys generated from the key to carry out a series of modular arithmetic and XOR operations on segments of the 64-bit plaintext block.
The encryption involves modular multiplication with a modulus of ((2^16)+1) and addition with a modulus of (2^16).
Note: for the purposes of the algorithm, a key of all zeros is defined as being equal to 2^16 for modular multiplication steps.

By selecting "TwoFish" from the drop-down box and choosing OK encryption will be enabled establishing a secure channel for communications between the client and server.
Even if encryption mode is not set TwoFish encryption is used to create a secure channel for all communications setup to prevent password sniffing and man-in-the middle attacks.
The TwoFish encryption algorithm was one of the selection finalist for the U.S. AES (Advanced Encryption Algorithm) by NIST.

International Data Encryption Algorithm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In cryptography, the International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA) is a block cipher designed by Xuejia Lai and James L. Massey of ETH-Zürich and was first described in 1991.
The algorithm was intended as a replacement for the Data Encryption Standard.
IDEA operates on 64-bit blocks using a 128-bit key, and consists of a series of eight identical transformations (a round, see the illustration) and an output transformation (the half-round).

Choosing encryption algorithm   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Any 128-bit or 256-bit encryption algorithm used by Sentry is considered unbreakable.
In case you are wondering why some encryption applications use 2048-bit or even larger keys, those applications use asymmetric (also called public key) encryption algorithms while Sentry is using symmetric encryption algorithms.
Due to the difference in mathematics, for a symmetric algorithm size of the key considered unbreakable is 128-bit, while for an asymmetric algorithm it is usually much higher.

A Current Perspective on Encryption Algorithms
This talk will present a perspective on the current state of play in the field of encryption algorithms, in particular on private key block ciphers which are widely used for bulk data and link encryption.
It is optomised for bulk data encryption (since key changes are slow), and uses four large 8*32 bit random substitution boxes generated from the supplied key, whose outputs are combined using addition and xor.
With the development of new algorithms, and their public evaluation, this should be easier than ever before, if only governments will address the political issues and accept its necessity and need for unrestricted use.

Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Development Effort   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The algorithm(s) is expected to be used by the U.S. Government and, on a voluntary basis, by the private sector.
In addition, the algorithm(s) must implement symmetric key cryptography as a block cipher and (at a minimum) support block sizes of 128-bits and key sizes of 128-, 192-, and 256-bits.
The AES finalist candidate algorithms were MARS, RC6, Rijndael, Serpent, and Twofish, and NIST developed a Round 1 Report describing the selection of the finalists.

Abstract: Twofish is a 128-bit block cipher submitted as a candidate for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
In this paper we consider mainly differentials of Twofish and show that there are differentials for Twofish for up to 16 rounds, predicting at least 32 bits of nontrivial information in every round.
As it turned out, the very same structure of Twofish that he was using prevented the attack he presented.

Twofish is among the top 5 of 15 sophisticated encoding formulas being considered by the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to replace the current standard DES (Data Encryption Standard), which is too weak and slow for today's computing power.
Mathematical formulas, called algorithms, are at the heart of computerized encryption systems.
Twofish is a product extension to Applied Cryptography, is among the leading contenders for U.S. government new millennium security standard, and both computer security developers and practitioners alike eagerly anticipate seeing its inner workings.

For traditional strong encryption, the library supports the newly adopted AES (US Advanced Encryption Standard) secret-key encryption algorithm (Rijndael), which uses 128, 192 or 256-bit keys.
The library uses the modern SHA-2 and HAVAL hashing algorithms so that passphrases can be converted to exactly the amount of bits required for an encryption key and with better mathematical properties than older hashing algorithms such as MD5.
