On November 15, 2006, Mohawks from the Tyendinaga reserve in Ontario, Canada, briefly blocked Highway 2 with vehicles to stop a Canadian army convoy during a demonstration against a planned town house and condo development in the nearby town of Deseronto.
On April 20, Tyendinaga Mohawks used a school bus to block the Canadian National railway crossing at Deseronto Road, halting passanger and freight trains, with the demand that the provincial government revoke the quarry operators' licence.
Despite the fact that Tyendinaga has requested its licence be revoked given ongoing negotiations, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources continues to license the quarry for the removal of 150,000 tons of gravel annually.

 Tyendinaga Township Pioneers
Tyendinaga is of all the townships in the county, the best watered, seven parallel streams with their tributaries run through the whole width of the municipality in a south-westerly direction emptying themselves into the Bay and Moira Rivers.
Tyendinaga was named after and in honor of the celebrated chief of the Six Nation Indians, Thayendinagea, better known by his English appellation, Joseph Brant, who came to Canada with remnants of his tribes about 1793-4 from Lewiston, New York and located upon the northern shore of a portion of the Bay of Quinte.
A portion of the village of Roslin is situated in the north-west corner of the township.

 Tyendinaga residents issue lawsuit against Canadian Pacific Railway
The lawsuit, lead by Robert and Lorraine Guthrie, of Shannonville, is seeking compensation for damages caused to residents in Tyendinaga Township due to the wreck.
The citizens who are involved fall in the an area in Tyendinaga Township, which covers an area running from the Maryville Road to the Shannonville Road, south to the 401 and North to Sixth Concession road, said Ross.
The residents of the Tyendinaga area were evacuated after four propane tanks exploded and throwing one tank 1.6 kilometres, said Allen.

Originally referred to as the Mohawk Tract, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory is located approximately eight miles east of Belleville and approximately 50 miles west of Kingston.
Tyendinaga, when translated in English, means "placing the wood together." Of special significance, the name is derived from "Thayendanegea," Captain Joseph Brant's Mohawk name and reflects the belief that "our strength shall be in unity."
Tyendinaga's housing subdivision is located on Huron Brant Drive, off the Bayshore Road, about 2kms east of Hwy.

Tyendinaga is the new target for state "development." You may remember this past spring Six Nations was the former target & had opposed a non-native housing development on their territory, re-igniting a resistance movement.
The women of Tyendinaga will be meeting in the next few days to discuss the next steps.
There is a need for public education within both Tyendinaga and the town of Deseronto on the Land Claim, the historical background, the process and the history of the Haudenosaunee.

Although demonstrators from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Nation Territory near Belleville agreed last night to dismantle the barricade, their day-long protest halted railroad traffic on a typically busy section of the Montreal-Toronto corridor and left about 3,500 VIA Rail passengers stuck across Ontario and Quebec.
The Tyendinaga Mohawk protesters decided to take down their railway blockade when they received confirmation "meaningful" negotations were taking place in the Caledonia dispute, said Sergeant Kristine Rae of the OPP's Smiths Falls East Region Headquarters.
Shawn Brant, a Tyendinaga Mohawk and the de facto spokesman for the group, said earlier in the day -- before protesters agreed to remove the blockade -- that demonstrators would continue to block the railroad tracks despite the CN injunction.

During the October 3, 2005, Township of Tyendinaga regular council meeting, Recreation Co-ordinator Liette Osborne gave an update on the summer and March Break camp programs which were held at the Recreation Hall on McFarlane Road.
While the feasibility of the Tyendinaga summer camp program was questioned, it was acknowledged that larger urban communities would have higher participation levels than smaller rural ones, and that should not be a factor used to decide the camp program's worth.
