	Charles Tyers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Captain Charles James Tyers RN FRSV (13 September 1806–20 September 1870) was a 19th Century surveyor and explorer, and the Commissioner for Crown Lands for Portland (1841) and Gippsland (1844).
		The newly apponted Commissioner of Crown Lands Tyers arrived in Gippsland in early 1844, and was soon involved in legal, moral and cultural problems of a different sort than what he found in Werten District the year before.
		Tyers was responsible for inaugurating government in Gippsland and virtually became 'King' of the huge isolated area, where lawlessness had been common and the Aboriginals hostile.
