 Tyndall AFB, Florida
The name of Tyndall Field was suggested by Congressman Bob Sikes of the Third Congressional District of Florida, in memory of Lt. Frank B. Tyndall, a World War I ace, who was killed on active duty in 1930.
The wing began its mission at Tyndall with the F-101, F-106 and T-33 aircraft, while at the same time phasing out the F-101 and F-106 aircraft and preparing for the arrival of Tyndall’s first F-15 aircraft in 1983.
Tyndall AFB was struck by a tornado on Feb. 16, 2003.

The 57th Fighter Weapons Wing at Nellis AFB, Nevada, took possession of the aircraft in November 1982, where it remained until was transferred in February 1984 to the 405th Tactical Fighter Wing at Luke AFB, Arizona.
In February 1992 the aircraft was assigned to the 325th Fighter Wing at Tyndall AFB, Florida.
The aircraft is painted in the ghost gray camouflage scheme and emblazoned with silk-screens of the three fighter squadrons assigned to Tyndall AFB, with Brigadier General Clinton V. Van Horn, the 325th Fighter Wing Commander, as pilot.

Blade (the pilot's call sign) was calling out the airspeed in knots, and in just a VERY FEW seconds our F-15 was doing over 300 knots (later in the mission we did 695 knots, which is mach 1.08 or 800 miles/hr).
Blade replied, "Well, gotta do something different." (He was disappointed that he couldn't show me other things the aircraft can do, but I felt the ~2.5 hour experience was invaluable as it was.) We did one low approach, giving me a great view of Tyndall, including the building I normally work in.
