The Tyndall Effect is caused by reflection of light by very small particles in suspension in a trasnparent medium.
Tyndall effect is easily seen using a laser pointer aimed at the the mist from this ultrasonic humidifier's mist
However since tyndall will increase to the third power of particle size for any given concentration, it is very difficult to use tyndall to determine concentration of a sol.

This is known as the Tyndall effect (after its discoverer, the 19th-century British physicist John Tyndall), and is a special instance of diffraction.
This effect is often used as a measure of the existence of a colloid.
Tyndall scattering occurs when the dimensions of the particles that are causing the scattering are larger than the wavelength of the radiation that is scattered.

  John Tyndall
Tyndall concluded that water vapour is the strongest absorber of heat in the atmosphere and is the principal gas controlling surface air temperature by inhibiting leakage of the Earth’s heat back into outer space.
Tyndall suggested that the sky is blue because molecules in the atmosphere preferentially scatter the sun’s blue rays.
Tyndall was best known as an advocate and interpreter of science and he constantly urged greater recognition of its intellectual and practical benefits.

The term Tyndall effect is usually applied to the effect of light scattering on particles in colloid systems, such as suspensions or emulsions.
The Tyndall effect is used to tell the difference between the different types of mixtures, namely solution, colloid, and suspension.
This effect occurs because short wavelengths of light towards the blue end of the spectrum hit the air molecules in the earth's atmosphere and are reflected down to the earth's surface.

Tyndall Effect: Visible scattering of light along the path of a beam of light as it passes through a system containing discontinuities.
For systems with particles with diameters less than one-twentieth the wavelength of light, the light scattered from a polychromatic beam is predominantly blue in color and is polarized to a degree which depends on the angle between the observer and the incident beam.

H2O2 ( hydrogen peroxide ) and Colloidal Silver
This image was taken by using a laser pen to examine the tyndall effect of a freshly brewed colloidal silver batch, just after the addition of two drops of 35% H2O2.
When the same process is done with a highly ionic batch, without the larger-sized silver particles, the tyndall effect would have increased temporarily, then completely dissapeared as the minute particles were ionized by the hydrogen peroxide.
Any particles left within the CS are extremely small, to the point that they are not measureable with a tyndall effect.

 Why is the sky Blue?
Tyndall and Rayleigh thought that the blue colour of the sky must be due to small particles of dust and droplets of water vapour in the atmosphere.
The net effect is that the red and green cones are stimulated about equally by the light from the sky, while the blue is stimulated more strongly.
The Tyndall effect is responsible for some other blue coloration's in nature: such as blue eyes, the opalescence of some gem stones, and the colour in the blue jay's wing.

 Properties of Mixtures and Solutions
This phenomenon is known as the Tyndall Effect.
Most students have experienced the same effect in a movie theater, when light from the projector becomes visible through the dust in the air.
The particles in a solution are usually much less than 10 A. As a result, in addition to settling, the particles in a suspension scatter light when it is passed through, giving it a cloudy appearance (Tyndall Effect).

In1887 he resigned from the Royal Institution due to ill health although he continued to be active within the spheres of science, education and politics.

The Tyndall effect, named for the Irish scientist John Tyndall, describes a phenomenon relating to a colloid (a combination of substances which is 'more combined' than a mixture but 'less combined' than a solution).
For example, the Tyndall effect describes the phenomenon noticeable when light shining through the rafters of a building illuminates previously invisible particles of dust in the air.
The effect is also noticable when car headlamps are used in fog.
