For a time it was the standard rifle of the Japanese infantry.
An earlier, similar weapon was the Type 30 Year Meiji Rifle, which was also used alongside it.
Other variants developed from the Type 38 were the Type 44 Cavalry Rifle, Type 97 Sniper Rifle, TERA Rifles and the final development, the Type 5 Rifle.

Gas-operated rifles, like the Hotchkiss and Colt machine guns, have fixed barrels and are worked by a portion of the powder-gases which is allowed to escape from the barrel through a small hole near the muzzle, thence entering a cylinder and working a piston in connection with the breech mechanism.
Rifles of 12-bore gauge, firing a spherical ball, were subsequently made, with broad and shallow grooves making one turn in 10 ft. The bullet, of the same diameter as the bore, was loaded with a thin patch that took the grooving.

The Type 38 Cavalry Rifle is a short-barreled model of the Type 38 Rifle.
The Type 99 was produced in four versions, the regular issue Type 99 Rifle, the Type 99 Short Rifle (the most common) and Takedown Short Rifle and the Sniper Rifle Type 99.
The rifle was originally the "winner" of a competition in Imperial Russia meant to replace the antiquated Berdan rifles then in use (which were single-shot breech-loading rifles, similar to the British Martini rifle).

Development of new rifle to replace the Type 22 was undertaken in December 1895 at the Koishikawa Arsenal under the direction of the Chief Superintendent of the arsenal, Col.
The rifle contains a hollow firing pin with a coil spring, a large safety knob on the rear of the bolt that also serves as a gas shield, a sliding breech cover that works with the bolt (the Type 35 cover was manually operated to the front) and a bolt that cocks on closing.
A modification of the Type 38 carbine with a folding bayonet was adopted in 1911 as the Type 44.

The U.S. War Department purchased 4,712 of these rifles during the Civil War but they were soon regulated to the storage shed due to their unfortunate tendency to fire all of its cylinders at one time, often removing the fingers of the firer's forward hand.
The rifle's discharge rate was so unpredictable that men often lowered the loading lever and held the weapon by it when they pulled the trigger.
The rifle was chambered for the.44 Henry Flat, a rimfire cartridge which was propelled by 26 to 28 grains of fl powder with a 200 grain bullet.

In the spring of 1865, late in the war, federal cavalry under Brevet Maj. General J.H. Wilson was gathered in the vicinity of Eastport, Mississippi, on the Tennessee River at the Northwest comer of Alabama.

The numbers are all the same size and type, not a bunch of jumbled numerals.
Nevertheless, the rifle appears to have been re-blued, but not to the deep-blue-sea or deep pre-war colors.

You seem to be confusing C-14 dating with other types of radiometric dating such as Argon/Argon which can be used to measure time scales in the billions of years.
In reality there are a number of different radioactive isotopes which can be used for measuring the age of the earth.
I'm happy to admit that I'm pretty confused on the basic idea of Creationism - I took a 2 semester course on the Old Testament at a Christian college some years ago, and it still doesn't parse for me. I suppose I'm happy to continue being diametrically oppsed to you, though.
