Typographical error - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
When documenting typos, people will often include the phrase "[sic]" to indicate that an error was in the original quoted source.
Typos are therefore common on the Usenet and the Web, and some have found certain notoriety as in-jokes among Internet groups and subcultures.
This typo is the result of releasing the shift key while the 1 key ("shift" and "1" is "!" on a QWERTY keyboard) is still pressed down.

Introduction to Typo filters   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
One of the new features that I’ve been working to add to Typo is the ability to easily add new text filters via filter plugins, similar to the sidebar plugins in Typo 2.5.
Admittedly, my definition of “common writing tasks” is probably different from most people’s, but the easy ability to extend Typo’s filtering system will allow people to adapt Typo to their own needs without having a deep understanding of Typo’s internals.
Typo’s filtering system allows the user to create filter sets that use one markup filter and any mixture of post-processing filters.

We reprinted TYPO several times and have been been using it with all our listings ever since-but now TYPO is going into a well-deserved retirement.
The main trouble with the original TYPO is that it didn't show exactly what line contained a typing mistake.

"Typo" is related to, but does not come from, the verb "to type".
It is short for "typographical error", which, of course, could refer to any error made by a typographer.
The Jargon File also gives "mouso", a ubiquitous kind of error in this point-and-click era.) Arguments of the form "It couldn't have been a typo, because those two keys are nowhere near each other on the keyboard" are a bit tiresome, especially when one keeps the true etymology of "typo" in mind.
