  Tyrone Township, Livingston County, Michigan
Its neighbor to the east is Rose Township (Oakland county); to the north, Fenton and Fenton Township (Genesee county); to the west, Deerfield Township; and to the south, Hartland Township.
The earliest records of the township are found in the acts of the Legislature of 1835, when, by an act approved by the Governor, March 26, 1835, it was attached to the town of Highland (Oakland County) for purposes of township government.
Tyrone was a farming community depending on the villages in the neighboring towns for supplies.

In the county the population was spread out with 28.80% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 31.70% from 25 to 44, 24.60% from 45 to 64, and 8.30% who were 65 years of age or older.
The county government operates the jail, maintains rural roads, operates the major local courts, keeps files of deeds and mortgages, maintains vital records, administers public health regulations, and participates with the state in the provision of welfare and other social services.

The counties which join this, and form its several boundaries, are Shiawassee and Genesee on the north, Oakland on the east, Washtenaw on the south, and Ingham on the west.
In nearly every part of Livingston County there were found old "Indian fields," in which they had planted their seeds and gathered their scant crops probably for many successive years.
This old chief, although living outside the county of Livingston, is properly mentioned here, for his village was not many miles from the western border, and he frequently passed through here with his band, and was well known to many of the settlers.

CHARLES McDOWELL, farmer, Section 17, Township 19, Range 8, P. Cottonwood Falls, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, December 28, 1816, locating first in Belmont County, Ohio, where he remained engaged in farming until he came to Kansas in the spring of 1871.
During the last four years of office he was the presiding officer of the board, and no small part of the present prosperity of the college is due to his clear insight in all matters of financial or practical nature and his earnest and energetic performance of the duties of his trust.

In 1996, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and nine southeast Michigan counties, began a study of the factors related to arsenic concentrations in drinking water.
Residents of Fenton Township in southeast Genesee County and Tyrone Township in northeast Livingston County depend on groundwater for drinking water.
In 2000, the arsenic mapping project was expanded to geocode point data and to produce maps of arsenic levels in private wells at both the county and township scale for the counties of Lenawee, Macomb, Monroe, Saginaw, and St. Clair.
