Tzuhu's scenery, under the maintainance of the ROC Ministry of Defense, remains well-preserved.
Tzuhu (慈湖 pinyin: Cíhú, literally "benevolent lake"), is an eight acre (32,000 m²) lake located in Taoyuan County, Taiwan near the temporary resting place of Chiang Kai-shek.
It was called formerly Green Water Lake (碧水湖澤) until Chiang Kai-shek renamed it as Tzuhu in 1962 because the scenery reminded him of his benevolent mother and his home town, Fenghua.

Cihu (Tzuhu) is situated in Dasi Township in northern Taiwan's Taoyuan County.
He used to visit Cihu (Tzuhu) and thought that the area's beautiful scenery was similar to that of his hometown in Chekiang Province in Mainland China.
He named the place Cihu (Tzuhu), which means "Lake of Kindness" in Chinese, for it often reminded him of his mother.

In Mainland China, however, Chiang's death was met With the brief headlines "Chiang Kai-shek has died." Chiang's corpse was put in a copper coffin and interred "temporarily" at his favorite residence in Tzuhu, Taoyuan County.
When his son Chiang Ching-kuo died in 1988 he was also entombed in a separate mausoleum in nearby Dashi.

Chiang Kai-shek, who died in 1975, and Chiang Ching-kuo, who died in 1988, had asked that their remains be sent back to their mainland home town in Fenghua county, Zhejiang province, for burial after the Kuomintang had won back control of China.
Their bodies have been kept in temporary resting places in Tzuhu and Touliao in Taoyuan county outside Taipei.
Under Chinese tradition, the dead must be laid to ground for permanent rest, and leaving the two men unburied was considered bad luck for the family.
