United States Bureau of Reclamation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1923 the agency was renamed the "Bureau of Reclamation." Then, in the face of increasing settler unrest and financial problems for the reclamation program, in 1924 the "Fact Finder's Report" spotlighted the issues.
The United States Bureau of Reclamation (Formerly the United States Reclamation Service) is a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior which oversees water development projects in the western United States.
Reclamation's redefined official mission is to "manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public." In redirecting its programs and responsibilities, Reclamation substantially reduced its staff levels and budgets but remains a significant Federal agency in the West.

On the centennial anniversary, this is an opportunity to look at the Bureau of Reclamation and its legacy in Western water issues.
The West was changed forever by the passage of the Reclamation Act of 1902, which launched a federal effort to “reclaim” the western desert as agricultural land for small farmers.
Although it was established to help small family farmers, the Bureau has evolved in the last few decades to simply maintaining its position, serving special interests and fueling the concentration of agriculture land to corporate farming.

As of late April, White said, Lake Mead held 60 percent of its total capacity, the highest spring level since the drought began.
