Northern Ontario - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Northern Ontario is the part of the province of Ontario, Canada, which lies north of Lake Huron, Georgian Bay, the French River and Lake Nipissing.
All of Northern Ontario's cities declined in population between the censuses of 1996 and 2001.
The northern and northeastern areas are generally more progressive, due to the high concentration of First Nations and the high franco-ontarian population, which are generally quite liberal.

Northern Ireland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Northern Ireland was covered by an ice sheet for most of the last ice age and on numerous previous occasions, the legacy of which can be seen in the extensive coverage of drumlins in Counties Fermanagh, Armagh, Antrim and particularly Down.
However within Northern Ireland, print media which are aligned to either community (the Belfast Newsletter is aligned to the unionist community while the Irish News is aligned to the nationalist community) generally use their community's preferred term.
The centrepiece of Northern Ireland's geography is Lough Neagh, at 392 km² the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles.

The Northern Shrike and the similar Loggerhead Shrike are the only two members of the shrike family to be found in North America.

Northern harriers actively hunt for voles and other small mammals and insects such as grasshoppers around the salt water marshes where saltgrass is prevalent.
Northern harriers are so dependent on voles that one researcher has named them "the hawk that is ruled by a mouse." In the winter months when vole and grasshopper populations are low, northern harriers can be seen catching smaller birds.
Northern harriers have strongly hooked bills and very powerful talons, which are useful in capturing and eating prey.

 Where is Northern Virginia?
(7) “Northern Virginia” is the Virginia portion of the Washington PMSA as established by the 2000 Census.
This definition of “Northern Virginia” includes the City of Alexandria, the Counties of Arlington and Fairfax plus the cities and towns surrounded by these jurisdictions and is 283,000 acres, 1,357,300 population, 4.8 person per acre density.
The reality of interconnection is, of course, the reason for calling the entire area “Northern Virginia.” Two counties, Culpeper and King George, were dropped from the 1990 Census PMSA because the commuting percentage does not meet the new minimum standard.

The Northern Dimension addresses the specific challenges and opportunities arising in those regions and aims to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the EU and its member states, the northern countries associated with the EU under the EEA (Norway and Iceland) and the Russian Federation.
The Northern Dimension concept covers a broad and diverse geographic area, stretching from the Arctic and sub-Arctic to the southern shores of the Baltic, and from North-West Russia in the East to Iceland and Greenland in the West.
The Northern Dimension in the external and cross-border policies of the European Union reflects the EU’s relations with Russia (and particularly North-west Russia) in the Baltic Sea region and Arctic Sea region.

 Northern pike: Minnesota DNR
The quickest way to tell a northern pike from a muskie is to note that the northern has light markings on a dark body background, while muskies generally have dark markings on a light background.
A foolproof method is to count the pores on the underside of the jaw: the northern has five or fewer; the muskie has six or more.
Northerns also have rounded tail fins, compared to the pointy tail fins of a muskie.

 Northern Waterthrush
The Northern Waterthrush, a member of the warbler family, migrates from its home in the Neotropical Zone to breed in the forests of Canada and the higher altitudes of the northern Rockies and Appalachian Mountains.
Northern Waterthrush populations seem to be holding steady and in some regions are increasing.
In the hand, the large dark centers of the undertail coverts are diagnostic and separate the Northern from the similar Louisiana Waterthrush (that has small, diffuse gray centers on the undertail coverts).
