UALR has signed New Mexico standout Calah Wood to play soccer this fall, coach Greg Hess announced today.
She is a great target player up front, and she has good size and speed and the will to win.

Trojans picked 3rd; Vracar named All-SBC The UALR volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference east division by the league coaches in the annual preseason volleyball poll, while Senior Ivana Vracar was the only Trojan to be named to the preseason all-conference team.

J unior outside hitter Ivana Vracar set a new school record with 34 kills, but it wasn’t enough as Texas-Arlington held off the Trojans for a 30-18, 30-28, 33-35, 30-24 win at Texas Hall during the first day of play at the UTA Invitational.

The previous year, the UALR women's cross country team was named All-Academic with Distinction with a team GPA of 3.43.
And 10 track, field and cross country athletes were named to the 2003-04 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List for earning a GPA between 3.5 and 4.0, and seven additional runners were named to the conference Academic Honor Roll for achieving a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.
This recognition is in addition to the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams, individually, being named All-Academic by their respective national coaching organizations in 2002.

Shields was named head coach at UALR after three years as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for a team that won 18 games in three consecutive seasons.
Shields was one of the keys in sparking the biggest turnaround in Sun Belt Conference history, taking a UALR team that won just four games the previous year and leading it to an 18-11 record in the 2000-01 season.
Shields, born March 9, 1965, earned his bachelor of science in education in 1988 and a master’s in education in 1992, both at Baylor.
