Topic: UBASIC

  UBASIC
UBASIC is a BASIC-like environment which is suitable for number theoretic investigations.
Version 8 of UBASIC has the high precision real and complex arithmetic (up to 2600 digits) of previous versions, but adds exact rational arithmetic and arithmetic of polynomials with complex, rational, or modulo p coefficients, as well as string handling and limited list handling capabilities.
In addition UBASIC has context-sensitive on-line documentation (read ubhelp.doc for information).

The directory is on the c: disk and is named, of all things, ubasic.
There are two ways to run this ubasic: 1) thru the pif, and 2) execute the runUB.bat file.

It runs in DOS or in a DOS box under DOS shell, Windows, etc. It is definitely the language to use if you want to try out number theory, primality testing, factoring, and/or really large numbers of digits for yourself.

I have since come across nfs.zip at: http://home.t-online.de/home/Wolfgang.Creyaufmueller/nfs.zip and I believe this is the UBASIC NFS code (I might be wrong).
I should also mention Scott Contini's work and the pages at CryptoWorld: http://www.crypto-world.com/ and Paul Leyland and colleagues at NSFNET: http://www.nfsnet.org/index.html This effort (and it seems much of the GNFS factoring being done) is based on the private sharing of the code developed by Peter Montgomery and Marije Elkenbracht-Huizing at CWI.

 uBASIC - a Really Tiny BASIC Interpreter - OSNews.com
Adam Dunkels, well-known author of the Contiki operating system and the uIP embedded TCP/IP stack, has written a really small BASIC interpreter called uBASIC in about 700 lines of C code.
It is intended to be a very small scripting language for systems where memory really is at a premium such as deeply embedded systems which may have as little as a few hundreds of bytes of RAM.
