     UCLA Medical Center is attempting to renegotiate a new contract with Prudential Healthcare to provide health care services to its subscribers, which include faculty and staff currently under UC Care.
     While UCLA Medical Center and its doctors have managed the Prudential contract with losses from the very beginning, Rosenthal explained, the situation was tolerable in the past because there were other more profitable contracts that would, in effect, balance out these losses.
     In a letter asking Prudential to renegotiate, UCLA medical executives said that while they hope to reach a successful contract, they must also inform Prudential of their intent to terminate the contract when it comes up Oct. 1 if negotiations are unsuccessful.
