Ultra high frequency - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One uncommon use of UHF waves is in the detection of partial discharges.
UHF is also widely used in two-way radio systems and cordless phones due to the fact that since UHF signals essentially travel over line-of-sight distances, distant transmissions cannot travel far enough to interfere with local transmissions.
UHF broadcasting was used outside Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley by private TV station TV3 in the late 80s, with the government stations only transmitting in VLF and VHF and the 450MHz range being occupied by the ATUR cellular phone service operated by Telekom Malaysia.

UHF (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UHF (also known as The Vidiot from UHF in Australia and parts of Europe, and Los Telelocos in Mexico) is a comedy cult film made in 1989.
But critical response was negative ("Siskel and Ebert thought I was the antichrist"), and UHF was overshadowed in the theaters by much larger films such as Lethal Weapon 2, Batman and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
According to Yankovic on the UHF DVD commentary track, the two scenes that earned the movie a PG-13 rating from the MPAA are the scene with poodles being thrown out the window, and the scene where Joe Earley (played by Emo Philips) accidentally cuts his thumb off with a table saw.

A Guide to UHF Television Reception | WTIU
UHF signals, however, due to the physics of radio frequency transmission, are inherently less efficient in the conversion of radio waves to the electrical signals used by the television receiver, and are subject to more losses from some environmental conditions then VHF.
With separate VHF and UHF antennas, separate lead-in lines are used to connect them to their respective terminals on the television set.
UHF stations are usually transmitted either on an unused VHF channel or on one of the special cable channels available through a set-top converter furnished to the subscriber.

Review: Digitalk Communicator hand-held UHF CB radio
UHF CB suffers much less from interference and has better sound quality, but its range is much lousier.
The UHF CB repeater channels are numbers 1 through 8, with channel 5 reserved for emergency traffic, and the channel pair spacing is the same for all of them - 2 pairs with 32, 3 pairs with 33, and so on.
In Sydney, for instance, UHF Channel 1 is repeated by a chap in Hurstville whose repeater is instantly recognisable, thanks to its insertion of a "quack quack" sound effect every time someone dekeys (stops transmitting).

UHF (1989) - A Review by David Nusair
UHF was released in 1989, and I was a total "Weird Al" Yankovic fanatic at the time (still am, actually; just not quite to the obsessive degree that I was then).
Their luck changes, though, when George's uncle wins the deed to a low-rent UHF station and offers them the chance to manage the place.
While the majority of the film is devoted to wacky parodies, the underlying storyline follows George's dogged determination to see his station succeed and desperate attempts in winning back the love of his life (Victoria Jackson).

What is UHF? - a definition from Whatis.com
In the UHF band, signals from earth-based transmitters are not returned by the ionosphere to the surface; they always pass into space.
The UHF band is extensively used for satellite communication and broadcasting, in cellular telephone and paging systems, and by third-generation (3G) wireless services.
Because the frequency is high and the band is vast (a span of 2.7 gigahertz from the low end to the high end), wideband modulation and spread spectrum modes are practical.

Movie Review for UHF - 2002-06-04
Essentially, UHF is a vehicle for the God of Musical Parody, 'Weird' Al Yankovic, probably intended to promote him as a movie funnyman a la Leslie Nielsen.
George Newman (Yankovic) is given control of a UHF station by his gambling Uncle Harvey.
And therein lies what is also very wrong with UHF; It tries too hard, and forgets the number one rule of great comedy - "Timing is everything." There's no relief from the deluge of funny stuff, and it becomes just this huge long squawk of somewhat amusing material.

Portland, Oregon’s UHF is often categorized as psychedelic, and it is true that the band has drawn a lot of inspiration from psychedelic-era Beatles records.
UHF has applied a veneer of psychedelia trappings to their songs, but not the unpredictable, anything-goes aspect of psychedelic rock.
But you would think that naming your band something like UHF would give a hint of the sound of the music; that it would convey the white noise and bleeding reception of that medium.

Video Review @ Stomp Tokyo - UHF (1989)
UHF stars "Weird Al" Yankovic as George Newman, a day-dreaming proto-slacker who not only can't keep a job, but gets his friend and roommate Bob (David Bowe, in no way to be confused with David Bowie) fired along with him.
Yankovic himself said in BTM that UHF was "just an excuse to be goofy." I'm beginning to think that "goofy" translates from some unknown language as "padding" rather than "funny." I admit to laughing...
To sum up, Al's brand of lunacy was probably never meant to go on so long without breaks, or take on so many targets from such a lumbering pre-satirized beast like all of television.
