UHF (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UHF (also known as The Vidiot from UHF) is a comedy cult film made in 1989.
However, the critical response was negative and UHF was overshadowed in the theaters by much larger films such as Lethal Weapon 2 and Batman.
According to Al on the UHF DVD commentary track the two scenes that earned the movie a PG-13 rating from the MPAA are the poodles flying out the window and when Joe Earley (played by Emo Philips) accidentally cuts his thumb off with a table saw.

Ultra high frequency - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UHF and VHF are the most common frequency bands for television.
Modern mobile phones also transmit and receive within the UHF spectrum, and UHF is widely used for two-way radio communication (usually using narrowband frequency modulation, but digital services are on the rise) by both public service agencies and the general public.
UHF is also widely used in two-way radio systems and cordless phones due to the fact that since UHF signals essentially travel over line-of-sight distances, distant transmissions cannot travel far enough to interfere with local transmissions.

UHF frequencies have higher attenuation from atmospheric moisture and benefit less from 'bounce', or the reflection of signals off the ionosphere back to earth, when compared to VHF frequencies.
In Britain, UHF television began with the launch of BBC TWO in 1964, using a 625-line system (which had higher resolution, and therefore required greater bandwidth, than the existing 405-line system).
A drawback to this is the very large number of small relay transmitters needed to fill in gaps in the main transmitters' coverage, which would not have been necessary wth a VHF system due to its different propagation characteristics.

However, with the emergence of additional broadcast television networks (Fox, UPN, WB, and Pax), the concentration of media ownership, and the proliferation of cable television, digital television, and DSS in the 1990s, the distinction between UHF and VHF stations has virtually disappeared in the United States.
In Britain, UHF television began with the launch of BBC2 in 1964, using a 625-line system (which had higher resolution, and therefore required greater bandwidth, than the existing 405-line system).
BBC1 and ITV soon added their own 625-line services on UHF (British channels 21 to 69), and PAL colour was introduced on UHF only in 1967–1969.

UHF is all this to me. Even if this movie were nothing but the *commercial* parodies alone, it would be fully worth the price of admission (whether it's saying "I love you with the gift of a spatula" or seeing the results of a shoddy cemetary, they're some of the best bits in this film).

Despite the 2 1/2-star rating, be advised that your enjoyment of "UHF" is going to be predicated entirely on your fondness for "Weird Al" Yankovic, he of the bizarre, often hilarious music parodies, accompanied by even wackier videos.
As with any such movie, many of the skits here are very funny, but just as many tend to fall flat.
"UHF" is rated PG-13, mainly for the blood-spurting comic violence, along with a few vulgar gags.
