UK Singles Chart records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Their third single, "The Power Of Love" did not quite manage to equal the success of its predecessors, but spent a week at the top and was only knocked off by Band Aid, which went on to sell over 3.5 million copies.
The record took the greatest phenomenon in the UK to be broken.
Their first single only reached #17 in the UK charts in 1962, but by 1969, they had scored that many UK #1's, become a global phenomenon and clocked up 5 million selling singles in the UK, of which their first was their largest.

 CHARTWATCH Home Page
CHARTWATCH was founded (bet you didn't know it was losted!) by John Hancock and Neil Rawlings in 1981 to serve a small and eccentric community of people interested in analysing record charts.
Record charts serve as a repository of information and nostalgia for people interested in pop music, to such an extent that the Guinness books of UK Hit Singles and Albums have become major sellers in the UK.
These kinds of books are all very well in their own sweet ways, but as well as being out of date as soon as (or even before) they're published, they also only answer some of the questions people are likely to ask.

The UK charts are pretty fast moving anyway, so this is not too unusual, though it does mean that "Spark" was not a huge hit in the U.K. The Dutch Album Charts
Spark never made it to the singles charts (not counting a third chart in our Veronica TV-guide), but it did appear for several weeks in the Tip Parade (part of the Rabo charts), which indicates possible future entries in the singles chart.

Music Chart Position Books from The Bomp Bookshelf   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
A seven-inch record (the same size as the 45-RPM single), usually housed in an attractive hard cardboard picture sleeve, it included two songs per side and was a popular alternative to the full-length alkbum during the '50s and '60s, seeing a revival during the '70s-'80s punk/new wave era.
Bomp comment: if it shows the US and UK chart positions side by side (like The All Music Book of Hit Albums) that would be a very useful reference; for now, at any rate, it seems to be all that's available.
Records are indexed by song title, with date of first entry and highest position, and fact-files list the sales figures of the best-selling songs and artists.

Their chart records! - BeatleLinks Fab Forum
Most complete ever domination of the three UK charts (singles, albums, EPs): the Beatles had the #1 UK single, the #2 UK single, the #1 UK album, the #2 UK album, the #1 UK EP, the #2 UK EP and the #3 UK EP for three weeks from December 12, 1963 to December 26, 1963
The reason for this is that during the 1960s, songs usually only spent 1 or 2 weeks at #1, and then made way for the next classic, because in the 60s, a lot more singles were released than during the 1990s.
Reason for this is, among others, that few singles are being released these days, allowing a longer stay in the charts for those singles that do chart, as well as a longer stay at #1, as there are so few records to compete with.
