Manual records are a non-automated “relevant filing system” (that is, a filing system structured by reference to individuals or to criteria relating to individuals), and thus must be configured so that specific information regarding an individual is readily accessible.
This is in accordance with the minimum requirements under UK law for the continuation of contractual non-pay benefits during the 14-week minimum maternity leave period.
UK maternity legislation assumes that sick leave cannot be taken during maternity leave, and the rules in this regard will need to be clarified.

If systems with ineffective access controls are connected together in a network then instead of the data being available merely to all staff in the hospital, it might become available to everyone on the network.
This is occasionally convenient for system maintenance; in such cases, it is prudent to enable the modem for dial-in only after arranging the service call by telephone.

The majority of states’ notification laws define the population of offenders that are subject to community notification as those convicted of a sexually violent offense or a sexual offense against a victim who is a minor.
In Oregon, notification is used as a management tool—when an offender is doing poorly in treatment or not complying with conditions of his or her supervision, officials may decide that the offender poses a risk to the community and should be subject to notification.
Notification should be accompanied with community discussions about the nature and extent of sexual offending, what is known about sex offenders, sex offenders’ rights, and actions that citizens can take to protect themselves and their families.

Planning officers and applicants agreed that the neighbour notification system needs to be simplified and made more flexible, with notification requirements in more harmony with the nature of the proposed development.
Practice in Scotland, with a statutory system of notification and self certification of compliance by applicants, differs from that in England and Wales where planning authorities have statutory responsibility to give publicity to planning applications and have wide powers of discretion to determine the appropriate methods of publicity in each case.
The key requirement of the study recommendations is seen as being to maximise the effectiveness of notification procedures whilst not significantly increasing costs to planning authorities or applicants, and reducing burdens on both as far as possible, whilst ensuring understandable and fair procedures.

Emerging Infectious Diseases - United Kingdom
Most data collection is performed electronically, through a computerized system that allows laboratory data to be captured at the source, augmented with clinical or risk factor data, and transmitted both centrally to CDSC and locally to the responsible public health professionals.
These three systems complement each other, and the data are collated, analyzed, and disseminated by CDSC and are then extensively used to inform both government policies and local activities for the prevention and control of communicable disease.
One of the side-effects of an efficient surveillance system is that because new diseases or variants of diseases and outbreaks are detected earlier than in countries with less comprehensive systems, such diseases are often thought to have originated, or to predominate, in that country.

Vehicle excise duty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
The primary aim of the change is that HGVs from the UK and the continent pay exactly the same to use British roads (removing the ability of foreign vehicles to pay no UK tax).
However, it is also expected that the tax will be used to influence routes taken (charging lower rates to use motorways), reduce congestion (by varying the charge with time of day), and encourage low emission vehicles.
In June 2005 the government announced plans to adopt a similar road user charging scheme for other road vehicles, which would work by tracing the movement of all vehicles using a telematics system.

All notifications are submitted to the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (SMI), both by the physician having seen the patient (clinical notification) and by the laboratory having diagnosed the causative agent (laboratory notification).
Furthermore, a study from the UK estimated the incidence of salmonellosis presenting to general practitioners in 1995 to 157 per 100,000 and the incidence of laboratory confirmed cases to 80 per 100,000 [25], figures in the same magnitude as our estimate of 119 per 100,000 in that country.
