One of the UK's largest TV companies, UKTV a joint venture between the BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide, and the cable television company \nFlextech.
UKTV's channels are available via satellite and cable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
In the UK, on digital terrestrial television, UKTV History and UKTV BrightIdeas are available on the Freeview platform, and selected parts of UKTV Gold, UKTV Style and UKTV Food are available through Top Up TV.

Most programmes on UKTV's channels are repeat broadcasts of BBC productions (although the entertainment channels also feature programmes made by other companies) and the channels themselves are operated by Red Bee Media (formerly BBC Broadcast, recently bought by Creative Broadcast Services from the BBC) and played out from BBC Television Centre in London.
None of the UKTV channels operates in widescreen — programmes made in widescreen are always horizontally cropped into 14:9 — and factual programmes are almost always cut for commercial timing although dramas and comedies are not.
There is a network in Australia and New Zealand called UK.TV, which is similar in format to UKTV Gold, carrying a mix of BBC and ITV programmes.

I can only receive UKTV Brightideas on Freeview and I am wondering what has happened to Great Food Bites.
What I have to put up with is the awful Food Uncut which is a total waste of 30 mins television.
I watched it the first week then tried a few times after that, I don't bother now cos I just didn't like it so I turn over as soon GFL finishes.

UKTV Bright Ideas is seriously underperforming considering it's on Sky, Cable and Freeview.
I personally think they should merge Documentary and People back together and bring back UKTV Horizons 1 and 2, much better name...now considering some UKTV channels now have shows have no reference to what the channel is called...It seems to be losing its edge the whole network.
UKTV Military History is a reasonable possiblity for a new channel.

UKTV Gold is a channel which is all repeats from the BBC so i can't understand why people want to pay for what was once shown Freely on the BBC.
UKTV Food and UKTV Style, well if you are willing to wait you can catch all the repeats for free on UKTV BrightIdeas.
If UKTV had sense they would ditch UKTV BrightIdeas and put UKTV People or UKTV Documenarty on free-to-air.

I was just about to say the same thing, as UKTV History has been getting better as well (IMO), is it a preperation for more freeview UKTV channels, UKTV Gold maby, but people have been saying that for ages now...
It seems UKTV are paying a lot more attention to their freeview lineup recently.
UKTV is showing a lot fewer WW2 docs as well and showing some really interesting natural history programs.
