		UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester (additional info and facts about Victoria University of Manchester) retained close ties for the second half of the 20th Century (additional info and facts about 20th Century), with UMIST students being awarded, or having the choice of, a University of Manchester degree until full autonomy in 1993.

		Millions of working days are lost every year because of workplace bullying according to a new survey, the most comprehensive of its kind, to be released on 14 February.
		The survey of 5,500 UK employees across the public, private and voluntary sectors, conducted by the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and supported by the TUC and CBI, reveals the extent of workplace bullying in Britain today and looks at the impact on staff morale and the economy.

		The School of Mathematics has been created by merging two established and successful mathematics departments and will form one of the largest and most research-active schools of mathematics in the country.
		The Mathematics Departments of UMIST and The Victoria University of Manchester have a long history of close collaboration; the current merger is a natural progression and will enhance the research interaction and extend the portfolio of subjects offered for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

		In the UK, a courageous academic, Mona Baker of UMIST, has severed her ties with two Israeli researchers in a show of support for the Palestinians.
		Mona Baker, a professor of linguistics at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (Umist), angrily denied the charge levelled at her by the NUS.
		Her employers at UMIST have since been inundated with abusive emails and phone calls from Jewish groups demanding that she be sacked.
