The University of Massachusetts Amherst (otherwise known as UMass Amherst or simply UMass) is a land-grant university in Amherst, Massachusetts.
UMass Amherst is home to the DEFA Film Library [2], the only archive and study collection of East German films outside of Europe.
UMass Amherst is part of the Five Colleges consortium, which allows its students to attend classes, borrow books, work with professors, etc., at four other Pioneer Valley institutions: Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges.

The University of Massachusetts at Amherst plans to offer prospective students an early admission option, including a scholarship incentive, beginning next year in hopes of luring top high school students.
UMass is offering an "early action" program, which allows prospective students to enroll in another school with no penalty except the loss of a nonrefundable fee of about $400.
Gargano said UMass is addressing another criticism of such programs -- that they generally favor students from affluent families by aggressively recruiting from community colleges.

The 3 1/2 year delay in DEA non-response to the UMass Amherst application for a license to grow marijuana for research trips the further inquiry wire at DEA, however, so there apparantly is a chance for some oversite.
