The UN Security Council Veto Power is a power wielded solely by the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, enabling them to void any Security Council resolution regardless of the level of general support.
The veto system was established to protect the interests of the founding members of the United Nations, which were the countries that won World War II.
At the UN founding conference in 1944, it was decided that the representatives of Britain, China, the Soviet Union, the United States and, "in due course", France should be permanent members.

India has ruled out accepting membership of the expanded UN Security Council without veto power, saying sans veto new members would not be able to fulfill the mandate of the General Assembly efficiently.

During its annual summit that was held in Sirte, Libya, the AU resolved that the UN Security Council should be enlarged in both the permanent and non-permanent categories and improve on its working methods, including according new permanent members the right of veto.

From India's point of view, as recently advocated by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his address to the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council reform is long overdue as it does not reflect post-Cold War realities and is heavily skewed in favour of Europe and the trans-Atlantic alliance.
India is paving the way for itself to gain a permanent place in the UN Security Council with veto power, notwithstanding its failure to resolve the border dispute with China and the five-decade old Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Without diminishing the importance of the security of consulates and other diplomatic missions, I would like to ask if it wouldn't be appropriate to take concrete steps to solve this problem instead of increasing the misery of the common people.
