It may be possible to eliminate one UNCHR resolution that addressed the issue of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel, since these prisoners have now been released in exchange for the bodies of three murdered Israeli soldiers and a kidnapped Israeli businessman.
In 1993, the UNCHR passed a one-sided resolution creating the position of Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
By ignoring this issue, the UNCHR has given tacit acceptance of the practice of anti-Semitism, the statement reads, and this undermines the UNCHR’s work to protect minorities and combat religious intolerance and racism.

Amnesty International would therefore urge the UNCHR, at a minimum, to reiterate its concern at the failure to bring to justice those responsible for the Santa Cruz massacre, and at the disparity in sentencing between members of the security forces and their civilian victims.
The UNCHR has been right to call for the immediate release of East Timorese prisoners who were not involved in violent activities, and to urge the proper treatment of all East Timorese prisoners in accordance with international human rights and humanitarian law.
For these reasons, Amnesty International believes that the UNCHR should urge the Government of Indonesia to invite all four of the UN theme mechanisms to visit both Indonesia and East Timor in the near future, and to facilitate the discharge of their mandates.

Libya should be the subject of intense UNCHR scrutiny, not the chair of its deliberations.
We respectfully ask that Canada continue its positive and constructive role in Geneva as a voice of reason and a counterweight to the anti-Israel sentiment that permeates the Commission, particularly as manifest in unbalanced, unhelpful and inflammatory resolutions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The UNCHR clearly needs reforming to its governance, membership, mandate and methodologies if it is to have any credibility as a mechanism for enhancing and protecting human rights around the world.

Traditional knowledge is not regularly discussed in the UNCHR but is part of a range of issues considered by two subsidiary bodies of the UNCHR: the Working Group on the Draft Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ("WGDD") and the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights.
The UNCHR formed the WGDD to consider and further develop the draft Declaration.
