Applications are invited for up to four fully funded PhD Studentships in Water Law within the Dundee UNESCO HELP Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science, part of the Graduate School of Management and Policy (College of Arts & Social Sciences).
This interdisciplinary research centre is the only UNESCO Centre in the UK and the first of its kind in the world.
The core mission of the UNESCO Centre is to develop a new generation of local water leaders, primarily through research excellence and its innovative “Water Law, Water Leaders” graduate programme.

Mounir Bouchenaki, assistant director-general of Culture Sector of the UNESCO, attended the ¡°International Symposium on the Conservation of Koguryo Tombs¡± held from 25 to 28 October 2004 organized by the UNESCO Division of Cultural Heritage, in close collaboration with Cultural Properties Administration Office.
In this symposium, UNESCO will evaluate the project that has been underway for the last year-and-a-half, and it seems there will be an opportunity to adopt a recommendation containing several suggestions for moving forward in a more desirable direction from there on.
In terms of intangible heritage, UNESCO will encourage more countries to be added to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was adopted at the 2003 General Conference, and also support that member states promote and protect their own intangible heritages.

 Prix UNESCO
The biennial UNESCO Science Prize rewards a person or group of persons for an outstanding contribution they have made to the technological development of a developing Member State or region through the application of scientific and technological research (particularly in the fields of education, engineering and industrial development).
Candidates for the Prize are proposed to the Director-General of UNESCO by governments of Member States, in consultation with their National Commission for UNESCO, and by appropriate non-governmental organizations which have consultative status with UNESCO, each of which is entitled to nominate one candidate.
The laureate is selected by the Director-General of UNESCO upon the recommendation of a panel of six eminent scientists and engineers from around the world appointed by him.

Unesco has still not learned to devote itself merely to long and tedious conferences.
In the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, Unesco adopted the Universal Declaration of Cultural Diversity in order to "reaffirm [the] conviction that intercultural dialogue is the best guarantee of peace," as the organization's director-general, Koichiro Matsuura put it at the time.
It all sounds innocent enough--along the lines of Unesco's celebrated 1970 convention recognizing the importance of the world's cultural heritage and calling on all nations to preserve their cultural treasures.

The Reagan Administration established the U.S. Reform Observation Panel for UNESCO in 1985 to monitor the organization's reforms and to advise the President on whether it was time to rejoin; however, the panel regularly rejected UNESCO membership, basing its rejection on evidence of inadequate reform.
UNESCO failed to evaluate the relevance or cost-effectiveness of individual programs, did not solicit feedback from staff, and did not require performance evaluations on projects, and many projects lacked concrete objectives.
